    Chasing down an electrical issue

If it happened as you turn the bilge pump on it could be the pump itself but again can be anything. You have to start eliminating , take the fuse of the pump off and see if voltage returns to normal, if yes it is a quick find. Are the batteries fully charged ? If not thats' the first thing you...

    Axle repaired!

Russ that axle is shot I wouldn't go very far with that. If the hubs are getting to 135 F just going around the corner they will get hotter on the HWY at 65 MPH. New bearings and new hubs getting hot could be that they are a bit on the light side for the weight they carry.

    228 Baitwell Aerator Addition

Without the rods you wouldn't be able to operate the seacocks in the 228. The rod on the port side on my boat looks a lot closer to the battery in the picture than actual. If have a good look my battery, terminals are covered but worse case and a steel rod touches one battery terminal nothing...

    Axle repaired!

Russ, Are you talking about rotor temp or hub? 135 F is on the high side for hubs but no issue on rotors even higher. If it was 135 F on the hubs check to make sure the new bearings you installed are not over tighten .

    Auto pilots

I installed AP44 in my 228G when I bought the boat a bit over a year ago. I used it to troll all the time, mostly the reason I installed it . Works perfect , same as if you are steering manually. Of course at very slow speeds ( I mostly troll at 7-8 kn) with wind it constantly turns but still...

    When to have a Survey

If you are inspecting the boat ( you should) and you are happy to buy it then get a Survey unless you know what to look for and you are mechanically minded .

    Water in the gasoline

More than likely the water came from the gas station , they would have had water in their tank. The other one is Ethanol, if they used ethanol that's disaster waiting to happen, especially if it was in there for a long time. I never use ethanol and never buy gas on the water ( trailer boat), I...

    Axle repaired!

Do you have surge brakes? If so the brakes are not connected to the truck. They only go on when you apply the brakes on the truck. 135 degrees F is very normal if the brakes were used. I assume you took the temp on the rotors, were they all the same? I never check the temp on mine but if...

    228 Baitwell Aerator Addition

Here you go, Both starboard and port sides. The old 228 was different they had a hole on the brace , the rod was guided through there. As you cab see on this boat they have aluminum brackets with holes.

    228 Baitwell Aerator Addition

It would be impossible to operate without the levers on a 228 unless you have 5' arms!

    228 Baitwell Aerator Addition

That's another way of doing it, it is how cheap boat manufacturers do it, like Trophy. I have to say it works but is not the most efficient way of doing it although it is the cheapest. You are using a pressure pump to feed the livewell , pressure pumps don't have the volume that bilge/aerator...

    over heating issue

From what you say the Ducers could effect it but also the engine maybe mounted higher than it should be . Have you tried playing around with the trim? Is it the same when trimmed in all the way? What happens if you turn hard ? Does the prop cavitate? The 17" prop should be OK without bottom...

    228 Baitwell Aerator Addition

If you don't have any pick ups under the hull it means you won't have any seacocks either. the livewell was never connected as a livewell then either. It could be used to store drinks or fish hence the outlet in the rear transom to empty the tank. Through hull ducers usually have much bigger...

    228 Baitwell Aerator Addition

The livewell drain on both my 228's is on the rear starboard side so I assume if you have an outlet there it will be it. Next check to see if you have a bronze pick up under the boat, my old boat that didn't come with deckwash had the pick up on the starboard side and she will have a seacock in...

    228 Baitwell Aerator Addition

Lee, The picture KY put up is the best solution. My current boat has the same set up. I don't use it for the catch, If I catch something for the table it goes straight on ice they are much better than keeping them alive because they stress when kept in small area. I keep my live bait in there...

    Floor board sealing (or not)

You don't need to use caulk there, if any water gets under it it can't go anywhere because the is a high lip under. What I did with my current and old boat when I took it off to install stuff there ( auto pilot pump) I sealed the bottom of the marine ply so it won't rot.

    Repower my 1999 sailfish

If your boat is rated max 450hp, is it wise to install 500hp? I don't know about where you are but I wouldn't do it here, may run into insurance problems in the future. One of the reasons Zukes are heavier, they have offset driveshaft with a reduction gear on the top and due to the gearing you...

    Repower my 1999 sailfish

If I was you I would opt for Merc or Yamaha as they are much lighter than Zuks.

    Axle repaired!

In my opinion they are the only brakes to use in a salt water trailer for long term trouble free trailering. Tree times the price to buy but much cheaper in the long term . I believe S/S Demax are good as well.
