    Buying an “underpowered” gulfstream

The boat does look clean and well maintained. If you can get at the right price...see how it does for you. You could repower down the road if it bothers you. Of course, I know that isn't an inexpensive proposition, but if the price is right you start off in the right place and have a solid...

    Fuel tank project is complete

When I had my tank out, I epoxied in an aluminum angle under the lip. That gave me the bite I needed. Drilled and tapped!

    Fuel tank project is complete

Looks great and looks like what I did as well. Even though it's "hidden" I like things neat, organized, and correct.

    Gil bracket removal

Hmmm....why not fill it with water and see where it leaks from? Unless, it's leaking under a specific loading condition...

    2006 228 BULK HEAD COVER

My 1984 seafarer bulkhead (port and starboard one) was shot. I tore it out and made a template. Cut out a new one from marine plywood and then epoxy sealed it. Then laminated over it. Then, installed and caulked it in.

    Fisherman 222 vs 209?

I assume you want the center console layout. I thought I did originally...but then considered how I use my boat. I troll a lot on Lake Erie. Having a hard top and helm area that is protected is nice for sun shade and rain events. Small cabin so kids can read and relax and we have storage...

    Color match gelcoat

I purchased spectrum color match. My boat is a 1984. I had to buff out the existing and the color match is very close.

    Seafarer Fish boxes

Hey folks. As I continue to pick away at the details of my 1984 seafarer restoration, I am looking at the fishboxes that are under the seats on the port and starboard sides. I don't see a seal around them. It's the edge of the lid gelcoat resting on the base gelcoat...and causing wear. I...

Help with deciding on a new Garmin unit and transducer

I can vouch for Gil. I ordered my Garmin from him. Great guy. I ordered a 1042 XSV and GT51M-TH transducer. Very pleased.

    Trailer options - thoughts?

Oh....I don't know. My hitch says 21,000 with weight distributing or conventional and 2100# tongue load. LOL! You just need an F350! Seriously, towing can be such a pain...being you have to balance payload, trailer tongue weight, max GCWR, etc. I got tired of it and said..."we're just...

    2004 228 Seafarer repower.

I don't know how you can go wrong with any of the outboards out there. I was in your situation in early 2018. I opted for a Mercury Verado 300. I had rebuilt my transom and basically restored the entire boat. She's a 1984 model. I got one of the last inline 6 models. I love it. Silky...

Hello from the great white north.

I price checked several sites for various items. West System epoxy: Amazon seemed to have the best prices I could find at the time. I used Go2 Marine for several purchases (hoses, thru hulls, ss clamps, etc.). I used thefiberglasssite for 1708 fabric and such. I purchased coosa board from...

Hello from the great white north.

I can share more pictures and video. I can also dig up (when I return from a business trip) the coosa board info. I priced a few locations for the Coosa board. It was an item I had to pay some freight on to have it delivered. I used West System Epoxy. I think the Coosa board is a really nice...

    New member

Congratulations on your new boat! I purchased a 226 (1984 model) that had the same cut out transom. I didn't care for it, and I had a transom that was wet (water intruded into the transom). I opted to enclose the transom when I redid it. I also purchased a custom marine welding flotation...

Hello from the great white north.

Sounds familiar. I redid my 1984 Seafarer last year. Stripped out the fuel tank, relocated a new one more forward in the boat to balance out the ride (added a new Mercury Verado 300 with power steering and DTS controls), redid the transom and made it full height, built mold and created a new...

    1987 Offshore 24 Instrument Panel

Thanks. It's still a work in process. Working on the "details" now....trimwork, storage, epoxy on the deck, etc. I went to the water last summer with all the mission critical items completed.
