Any auto body shop can do it.

Pic request: 22x roller trailer setup

That is an option I am considering, but I most likely wouldn't move forward on it until the rollers need to be replaced (which is probably in a year or two).

Which side emblem do you like

I say go naked...not you...we don't want to see that. Aside from the name on the hull, no emblems or stripes.

Pic request: 22x roller trailer setup

I started setting up the "new" trailer for my 227 last night. First, I moved the rear cross member back to effectively lenghten the trailer to accomodate the 22' hull (it had a 21' Parker on it before). Then I got to looking at the forward roller arrangement. It looks like the previous owner...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades The '76 catalog I downloaded listed the dry weight at 4,100...an exact match for the trailer that was under it. I think setting them up like that was common practice back in the day. That trailer still had the original tires on it when I...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades I may try to take everything to the local landfill to get a weight on everything before I block the boat. Then I'll go back with an empty trailer and get another weight so I can calc the difference. My Sailfish spent 10+ years on a 6,400 lb...

    Aux Tank Compartment Storage

I'm doing that in my 227. Nothing fancy though. My plan is to simply fill the screw holes in the perimeter, put some sort of pull in the lid so I can lift it up and build a subfloor out of pressure treated wood that just rests on the hull bottom. Maybe someday I'll make it pretty, but I don't...

    '86 Tournament 190 - Fuel Access Cover re-core job

I used 2 layers of 1708. It is 3/4 oz match stiched to a layer of 17 oz cloth/roven. I believe the official name is "stitchmat". Very little strength in mat alone.

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades Took the painted-on name off the boat this weekend. Shot some EZ-off over cleaner over it, let it sit for a few minutes and went at it with a paint scraper. Took me about 5 minutes to get the majority of the name off. Then hit it with a...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades New tanks is more or less ordered. Went with Sunrise Marine Tanks in Venice, FL. Just need to send in a check. I was told they don't take credit cards as they deal primarily with manufacturers so there has never been a need.

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades So, here's the latest on my rotten bulkhead issue... :? The bulkhead was skinned from the tank side a few days ago. Sopping wet and in REALLY bad shape behind the port stringer and moving farther outward. My guess is a poor seal between...

    '86 Tournament 190 - Fuel Access Cover re-core job

Yep, very common and IMO the main cause is poor construction of the hatch covers. Grady ran the core all the way to the edges of the panel and this caused the screws to pentrate the core and created an easy path for water to get in and rot to start. When I rebuild my hatches, I stop the...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades Well I went ahead and skinned the bulkhead from the tank side last night and peeled most of the core out. It was completely soaked. Behind the port main stringer it had the consisency of mulch. Looks like I'll be cutting out the other skin...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades Starting to think this bulkhead is going to be the preverbial can of worms. Been looking over mac83's "Replacing 1983 Seafarer floor/gas tank " thread and I see a few things that worry me... 1. There's no indication that the stringers and...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades I think so. I'll have to look when I get home. I know RIGHT next to the motor on either side are a pair of short stringers. Maybe 2" or 3" tall and about 2" wide. About 6" outboard of those those are taller ones. I guess the big question...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades I think I'm going to go ahead and skin the bulkhead from the tank side, pull out the main part of it and see what I have to work with. If there is glass on the forward side of it outside of the stringers, I'll dig out as much bad core as I...

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades I thought about that as well. You're right in that I shouldn't leave it like that though. Guess I'm getting a bit lazy these days. :-|

    '86 Tournament 190 - Fuel Access Cover re-core job

The tiny bit of thickness lost by grinding away any plywood remnants can easily be replaced by putting down a layer of mat prior to dropping on the new core. This ensures you get the best bond between the skin and the old core. When I do the main panel in my 227 here shortly, my plan is to...
