    Hardtop Replacement Project

John, it's just silicone that is sealing the top to the frame. Did out a small section and then try to fish a piece of braid or fishing wire through and use a sawing motion to cut through it. Nice work on the top ayacht! :goodjob

    Replacing 1983 Seafarer floor/gas tank

UGH...geez I hate grinding. It's the worst. Nice job! :goodjob

    Repower

Depends on the condition of it. If it's in good shape, yes...though the extra weight may put your scuppers underwater. Note that Yamaha 4-strokes require mounting on 29" center instead of the 26" that the boat is drilled for. You can put them on, but I think the cowlings will hit at full turn...

jell on fuel tank fitting area

I've heard of people putting some sort of grease/paste on the tank fittings to prevent the hoses from getting stuck to them, but I doubt it's clear. Clear gel over the sending unit could be dilectric grease. The old Formula I bought had a nasty brown gel on the fill lines that I am pretty sure...

    gelcoat color match...

Robert - the cleat was bolted on. I was able to get to the nuts by reach up through the aft compartment. ESMD - thinned w/ acetone. If memory serves, I used 6 ml per ounce of gelcoat. It's somewhere in my posts at the top of this board about non-skid replication. I've since heard styrene is...

    CG Documentation numbers question

I routed my numbers into a piece of wood using a Dremel, spray painted the wood white, brush painted the numbers black and screwed the thing to the inside of the transom.

How to clean hard plastic fighting chair?

Clorox Cleanup. That stuff worked wonders on the helm chairs in my old 252.

    283 access to bilge

Caulk that hatch...especially if you installed it in a wood-cored panel.

    New member looking at Overnighters

OEM ones are plastic and get brittle over time. I replaced them on a late 80's Overnighter last year and one was already cracked. I was able to grab them from the inside and easily break them off. No valves and they are just slightly above the waterline.

They are for the helm/fishbox drains. The problem is access. You need arms like 12' long.

    New member looking at Overnighters

It should be noted that changing out the forward thru-hulls on an Overnighter is a terrible pain in the @ss at best. So, look for one where that has already been done. I'm not sure if it's any easier on the Adventurer.

    New Panel by VectorLed

I would approach w/ caution. While I have spoken w/ Scott via email in the past (probably a year or two ago), I never did place an order for anything. He seemed responsive at the time, but I have read numerous threads on different forums lately about him failing to deliver a product in a...

    1986 CC Transom Problem

There is no inexpensive way to repair a transom. :( Does it look like the transom was repaired? Popping the cap is a big undertaking and it seems to me that anyone who would entertain such a project would be able to fix the transom properly. I could be wrong, but I think he fed you a bunch...

    1892 24' Offshore transom question

Check out http://www.classicmako.com. It's a very common modification. You just don't see than many posted here. I'm doing it on my Mako 17. I've never seen anyone try it on such a small boat so who knows how it will turn out...

    1988 Gulfstream232 project?

$8,000 is WAY too much. You should be able to find a running 232 that's been maintained for that price.

    Towing a 1992 204c with a Tacoma

Manual or auto trans? 4x2 or 4x4? I used to pull my old 204F around with a 4.0 V6, 5-speed, 4x4 Ranger. I could pull out on a fairly steep wooden ramp (yes, wood) in 4x2 but I would get tire spin. Engaging 4-HI took car of that. In 4-LO is was effortless.

    QUESTIONS--Towing a 208 w- a Grand Cherokee

If it's 5000 or under, you can tow it. No need to worry. No offense to other posters, but saying you need a vehicle with a 7000 lb. capacity to tow 5000 lbs. is silly. I used to pull my 1985 204 with an XJ Cherokee. I had no problems towing that boat and got something like 11 mph doing it...

The most HP for a 232 Gulfstream

I think the older ones had a max HP of 350. Zuke 140s on that hull would be awesome!

    Cabin bolster removal method?

That's wierd. :hmm Do your bolsters look like this? I remember having to jam my fingers in there pretty good to find the screws. The older boats had team trim instead of bolsters and the teak was screwed in. I can't imagine them reinventing the wheel to fasten those things. But I could...
