    Adding Auxiliary Tank

Lots of progress :p I can't tell from your pics one way or the other, but my tank fabricator suggested I placed a set of front spacers between the tank and forward coffin bulkhead incase I would ever come down off plane fast with a full tank of fuel, you don't want the tank slamming into that...

    Adding Auxiliary Tank

Correct, my name is Lee :), and thank you. Looks like you have it figured out. My install configuration had 3- 2x4's running across the top of the tank and under the lip of the deck (that's how Grady did it back in the day) which keeps it sandwiched in place. Between the wood and the tank I...

    Adding Auxiliary Tank

Mine is specific for a '87 228G It is the main tank, but it in the forward section and my aux tank is in the rear behind it if someone wanted that option. Patriot Marine made width a bit smaller to make the new install easier. That was helpful. So I think it depends on your hull year, as I...

    Adding Auxiliary Tank

I just went to Home Depot and purchased a 12' PVC 2 1/2" x 3/4" trim board ("Veranda" they call it-same as Azec boards). I cut it down and glued/clamped the pieces together with waterproof glue to get the thicknesses I wanted-which was 2 pieces for each spacer. Then I installed them with 2 1/2"...

    Adding Auxiliary Tank

"Kind of a pita"?? For those who have redone the hoses, I would say for me was a harrowing experience lol. Looks good, and my 228G also has aux hoses from the factory installed incase I want to add an auxiliary tank. Nice touch by Grady White. You are extremely fortunate you don't have to...

Delaminated Bulkhead and Painted Trim Completed

Job Complete! Happy with the "clean" look. I also was able to darken the carpet in the helm sides to a royal blue using grey and black pigments watered down and applied with a sponge and roller. Now she's back in the shop getting the bottom coat removed. Only thing I need to do is plane down...

Delaminated Bulkhead and Painted Trim Completed

Bulkheads are in. The hardest thing was drilling holes for the screws that are on the bottom of each side since the old bulkheads as templates were useless in that regard. So I took my time measuring each hole and drilled. Lucky I got the locations right. Tomorrow trim and doors go on....

    New owner - quick question

Longstreet, You likely will have a difficult time getting a good deal from a used 228 Grady on the west coast as Lite Tackle said, unless you hit the luck jackpot, or have a few years and are open to other models. I paid someone $3,500 to trailer my boat across the US. For me it was piece of...

    New owner - quick question

I live out West too, and bought a used Seafarer 228 a few years back. I hired a reputable surveyor to check her out, as she was for sale on the east coast. The surveyor told me he would be comfortable in 4-6' seas as far as safety goes. I also had a mechanic do a compression check on the...

Delaminated Bulkhead and Painted Trim Completed

Never thought about that. Could be very cool, but I already had the enamel from painting the trim in stern so I just went with it. Also might be interesting to paint the door frame a shade darker to highlight the louvers because all the rest of the boat trim will be one color. I think I'll get...

Delaminated Bulkhead and Painted Trim Completed

Forward progress: Cut bulkheads out of 3/4' plywood. Epoxied edges first then 3 coats primer, 2 coats oil based enamel. Trim is also painted 3 coats shellac primer, 2 coats oil based enamel. The bulkheads I used a roller on the final coat, and got a nice texture on it. Attaching a close-up. I was...

Delaminated Bulkhead and Painted Trim Completed

Yes agreed, and also could add a strip at the floor of PVC or Starboard to seal it off like SirGrady226 did. One existing bulkhead had totally removed itself from the flooring anchoring screws. I've decided to go with plywood on the bulkheads. Reno Nevada is a small town, so I do what I can...
