marlin or sailfish for extended stays?

I have owned both the Sailfish and the Marlin. Both great fishing boats, however the Admiral (i.e.., wife) would only spend 2 nights max on the Sailfish. The Marlin has much more room and we have spent over a week at a time on it. If you can afford it go with the Marlin.

    External Fuel Filters

I have a 2007 Marlin. My fuel water separators are mounted about 2 feet forward of the access panel under the rear seat. To access them you have to put the seat up, open the panel, crawl head first in and curl yourself forward towards the bow. I put up with that process only for a year and...

    Control Mold/Mildew

I use white vinegar to clean up if there is any forming but ever since I have been using a dryer in the cabin I have not had any problems with mold in the cabin. I bought it at West Marine. Been using it for a year with good success. To clean the bolsters I use Zep Commercial Mold stain and...

    Cleaning Products?

Normal cleaning I use Zip Wax, doesn't take off the waxed finish like other cleaning products, and it is cheap. White vinegar is best for mold. If mold really bad recommend Zep Commercial Mold Stain and mildew stain remover. Sold in Home Depot, cheap by the gallon.

    Windlass opinions Horizontal vs Vertical

I had the horizontal on my 27 Sailfish and now I have a vertical on the Marlin 300. Both were/are fine. If it was me I would put in the easiest.

    great bottom trip

We went offshore in the Gulf for mangrove snapper and red grouper Wednesday. Flat as glass, absolutely an awesome day. We caught 6 big mangrove snapper, 8 vermillion snapper, 32 huge Red snapper, 12 big AJ's, one big red grouper and 1 18# king mackerel (by accident). Oh yea, the Feds cut the...

Our trip to the Keys in our Marlin

My wife and I made the trip in our Marlin to Lower Matacumbe Key from Panama City Beach last year. We left in January and returned in mid March. We loved the trip also but had horrible weather the entire month and a half we were down there. Next time we will go in May.

    cheap screws!

Are you guys as frustrated as I am with the rusting white screws Grady White used? They all rust right around the head. I have been replacing them at a rate of about 20 a season. I have replaced almost all the ones on my Marlin now, and of course there are varying sizes. One would think with...

    Captain chair arms

I sent Grady White customer service a request via their website. They recommended I try Magic Eraser. As soon as the weather clears up I will give that a try and give you a report. It is still raining here. We are pretty flooded from the rain here in the Panhandle. It will screw up the...

Side mount or hardtop mount outriggers?

I have the 24 foot Lee Pro series on my Marlin. I typically drag six lines, sometimes a 7th "way back" on my center rigger. I love them. You can see them in the picture. I also made a small mod so I can lay them down going under the bridge going up my canal. I took out the bolts on the base...

    Captain chair arms

Guys, I have an 07 Marlin. Anyone found a solution to cleaning the soft part of the arms on the captains chairs? I have tried DEP commercial mold and stain remover, comet, and plain old soap and water to no avail. It looks like mold to me but if it was seems to me the DEP would have taken...

Vertical motor trim tab on twins?

I asked two respected engines guys the question. Here is what they both said. The vertical engine trim tabs main purpose is to protect the lower unit from electrolysis damage. Those trim tabs are zincs. In twin engine boats the tabs should be positioned one notch outboard. Port engine zinc...

    cutting a dorr

I would check the height of the lip behind the door to see if you will still have some protection from water going in the cabin. My Marlin only has about an inch behind that companion way door. You might be cutting it enough for the water to run down the stairs. I would also check with Grady...

    Offshore Fishing Outboard Question

When I am 50-75 miles out, I typically leave mine running, at idle they run fine. I also leave all my electronics on, refrig, live well, wash down pump, etc,. It gives me and mate some peace of mine when I am that far out.
