    Transducer through hull install

3M provides good data on their products. Shear strength gives you an idea of its adhesion. 5200 on fiberglass- 362 psi. 4200 on fiberglass - 165 psi. So 5200 has about 2X better adhesion strength. However, the gelcoat value for 5200 is 519 psi (not given for 4200) so it adheres even...

    Raymarine AXIOM anyone using yet?

Just ordered twin 12" Axiom MFD for my 265 Express plus the RV100 tducer for RealVision. Saw the systems at a show and it looks great and reasonably priced. The specs look good. The tducers are the pacing item for delivery so I probably won't have the stuff for 3 weeks or so. I'll report...

Folding Transom Catch - 265 Express

Eppem Indeed I am adjusting both. I have tried screwing in both screws, both sides, in as tight as they will go and then backing all off 1/2 turn at a time and trying that setting. If too tight, back them off another 1/2 turn and try. No go. Then I tried the reverse- backing all of them way...

Folding Transom Catch - 265 Express

Thanks for the input so far. I have contacted Grady about getting the part # and will look into getting the original design - perhaps mine is just worn out.

Folding Transom Catch - 265 Express

Perhaps something like this would work? It's a rubber latch and keeper http://www.ebay.com/itm/Southco-Flex-Dr ... 2386556834

Folding Transom Catch - 265 Express

Here you go The pic shows the catch - the male part goes into the housing that has 2 spring loaded balls and the screw you see is what is used to adjust the top spring tension. Another screw is on the bottom to tighten/loosen the bottom spring. The catch is on the aft side of the folding...

Folding Transom Catch - 265 Express

The 265 has the folding transom and two catches on the sides. The catches are adjustable but no matter how I adjust them, they're either too tight to fold or too loose and it falls down while underway. I've tried tightening them and lubrication the catch but NG. I'm thinking of adding a...

Anyone Use "Salt Away" or Similar Product as Engine Flush?

Re: Anyone Use "Salt Away" or Similar Product as Engine Flus I connect the salt away container/injector in line with the hose flusher hose connector. I have dual engines so I made up a rig to flush both engines at once with the salt away container/injector feeding both engines. I also use SS...

    Need advice Yamaha corrosion issue

One other thing to check- block corrosion where the thermostat is mounted. That vintage engine will have the same design as my '04s, which means the copper tstat can corrode the block to the point where a hole forms and salt water is squirted into the air intake. I posted about this a few...

    2003 265 express with twin yamaha f225

As someone said be sure to check the block at the thermostat housing. The copper tstat touches the aluminum block and the block corrodes. I posted my horror story before- the corrosion was so bad it went through the block and squirted salt water into the air intake. The result- a new...

    Batteries on 265

I always run the port engine only with the port battery using the battery switch. Same for the stbd engine/battery. The house battery is charged using a Cole-Hersee smart isolator/charger with its own switch. Works great- the batteries are always fully charged.

    265 windshield wiper replacement

Not 100% certain it was the original but it looks like the pics in the literature and is all stainless. The Bosch wiper has a narrow groove width compared to the other blades I checked out.

    265 windshield wiper replacement

FYI - after searching for a suitable replacement wiper (just the rubber wiper, not the whole blade assembly), I found the Bosch Microedge 18" blade fits perfectly. They only sell the whole frame and wiper so you have to remove the wiper from the frame, which is easy. The wiper snaps into the...

    sticker removal

I've had good success with a decal eraser wheel. Works like a pencil eraser and shreds the old decal and removes the adhesive as well. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00488DDB8/re ... TY6CQ7JHQ5

    Fuel burn on 265 express

I have a 2004 w/ F225s and see essentially the same performance as Foul Hooked- as long as the motors are trimmed up even a little. With the bow down, the fuel economy drops quite a bit. Also, my Yamaha fuel management gauge is off 18-20% (reads higher GPH and consumption than actual- both...

    Batteries on 265

My '04 has a group 27 starting battery and group 27 house batt starboard - both wet batteries. Both run fore/aft. I installed an Optima blue AGM group 31 (dual purpose ) portside to try it out. A bit of a tight squeeze to get it in but with an AGM you can turn it on its side without a problem...

    Yamaha Trim Tilt Seal Removal

Ambitious project! I agree with you about Cataumet Marine- they are very helpful and well-stocked. I'm in Falmouth near Bosuns and I usually wind up going to Cataumet since they have the parts I need. Did you have any issues getting out the pins that secure the top & bottom of the tilt...

2004 and earlier F225 thermostat housing

I pulled the tstats on my stbd 2004 F225 today to see how the aluminum loaded epoxy held over the 2015 season, about 100 hrs. While the epoxy held in the corroded divot I had last year at about the 8 o'clock position, the other epoxy applied to the block flaked off when I scraped it. The epoxy...
