Lithium Battery & Airconditioning Setup on a Marlin 300

Lithium iron phosphate chemistries do not have the same 'China Syndrone" failure scenario as plane Lithium Ion types. That said, there are foreign made cheap batteries, even lithium iron that are not the best quality. The quality of the battery management system is very important. All that...

    Seakeeper Ride Retrofit?

I have read about this system and it does sound interesting BUT for me, my issues with roll are mostly when the hull is at rest or drifting, not at speed. At speed, my main concern can be trim and list and I think that the bennett system is a good solution.

Yamaha 6Y5 Fuel Management Gauge not recording GPH

Check all connections at the flow sensors. Hopefully its just a bad connector. If that doesn't help, I would suspect bad sensors. Perhaps someone has the diagnostic test procedures Did both port and starboard displays die at the same time? If so, I am less inclined to suspect the sensors. There...

    2006 sailfish refrigerator

You said the temp was 40 degrees. Was that in the freezer or just the box?. Those fridges take a long time to cool. The amount of time also varies with the outside temps and more importantly, the cabin temps. So if you have a warm to hot cabin, how outside temps and stuff the fridge with warm...

    More Trim Tab Troubles

Try deploying the tabs at idle, not in motion. If they work that means the pump is working. When under way, there is a lot more force on the tabs. I suspect a wiring issue as Hookup mentioned. What guage wiring did you use and did you run a separate ground wire also?

Telltale water is really hot after idle

Its probably not a factor in this post but I would like to point out that on Mercury Optimax motors, the telltale stream comes directly from the air compressor which is directly fed from the water pump. In that design, your motor could be overheating but the pee stream is not hot. Likewise, no...

Adding fresh-water wash down to Freedom 215

By share I assume you suggest a selector valve. If so, that may not be doable if the live well pump is directly connected to the under hull seacock. As mentioned earlier a livewell pump with a secondary output port would be the way to go. The only downside I can think of is that the seacock...

Telltale water is really hot after idle

What was the temp of the water? I don't think anything is wrong. The engine was warmed up and as soon as you stopped the motor, the water that is still in the powerhead will get hotter due to the latent heat of the engine. You should test the temp of the telltale stream when the motor is...

    Getting Vinyl Boat Names Off

Good news about the name having been previously removed! All you need to do going forward is the simple Christening dialog The louder, the better:) Christening ceremony After a boat is denamed, you simply need to rename it using the traditional christening ceremony, preferably with Queen...

Adding fresh-water wash down to Freedom 215

The livewell is a raw water device. In order to add a true fresh water washdown, you need a fresh water tank, fill and vent fittings, a wash down pump, a screen/filter, associated plumbing and a deck or gunnel wash down hose fitting. If you boat in 'fresh' water than you could add a washdown...

Shopping list for Grady re-wire 1987 seafarer 228

Use the adhesive lined heat shrink tubing and connectors. Use a good crimping tool. Use only marine grade wire. Tinned or not, it doesn't make a big difference. Most Grady wiring was not tinned. When you start to price out wiring, you will see how expensive the wire is. Using a larger gauge of...

    2008 226 Seafarer - Battery question

The factor that matters most is not the amount of loads per se but how much of a load is drawn when the motor is not running. For example, you anchor and leave the stereo and other higher current devices on for a decent amount of time. Hookup is right about how to determine which battery is the...

    Getting Vinyl Boat Names Off

OY. Did you personally remove the name? I am a tad superstitious and personally removing the name on your boat can be bad luck:) You can make the situation better if you follow the renaming ritual. If it's not too late, let us know and I will see if I still have the details.

    Silicon caulk or 4200?

If you read the instructions on many of the caulks and sealants you may notice that they specify an optimal depth and often that is 1/4 inch or so. Yup. if the caulk is too deep, it doesn't last as long and that is because there is so much tension as things move or expand/contract that the caulk...
