Ethanol is bad for boats. I have learned this the hard (and expensive) way.

I managed to get caught in a crosswind and gauged my hull when it hit one of the trailer I-beams. It is about 3/16" deep and 6" long. Any ideas on how to repair it? I would like to do it myself if possible. Thanks for the help!

It depends on what year the 272 is. The euro transom 272s have the exact same hull as the 282, the only difference is the top cap (windows, dash, etc.). Later model 282s had an updated dash for flush mounted instruments and a nicer cabin (corian countertops) and changed to the fold out rear...

Everyone seems to agree on the need to "keep the transom dry". Does anyone know what is the best way to dp this on the eurotransom models?

One more thing! HPDIs do not like ethanol! They inject the fuel at around 700psi and are finicky about fuel quality. I keep my filters changed and treat the tanks if I am not going to use it for a while. Good luck!

To clarify on HPDIs, as long as you stay 200hp or below they are great as far as reliabilty and fuel economy (a little better than a 4 stroke on plane, a little less trolling). When you crack 200hp you go from a 2.6L block to the 3.1L. The 3.1L motors have a checkered track record.

One of my winshield wipers does not return to the side when switched off (stops where it is). Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it? Thanks!

You can find some 2000 models with the HPDIs (mine has them). Both are good motors. I have been told the HPDIs get about 20% better fuel economy, but I have never seen a comparison test. I would let the price of the boat dictate what engine I end up with.

I pulled a 272 from Ft. Lauderdale to Alabama without a permit and never was stopped (saw plenty of troopers and DOT vehicles). I stayed on the turnpike and interstates. Permits are cheap, and I probably would get one if I had to do it over. But......it can be done without one, you just risk...

I am about to change out my GPS to a newer unit. I was just wondering what others have been able to fit in the lower electronics box on a 272. Thanks!

I am in the market for a cover for my 2000 272 Sailfish. I am having a hard time finding one. If anyone has one for sale or knows where I can purchase one (Does Grady make one?), please let me know. It looks like my only option will be to have a custom cover made. Thanks! _________________

These are the two factory ones up front (head seacocks). They are fairly low profile, but they are still rubbing HARD. ahill, I plan on installing an aftermarket A/C system in the future. Any advice, pictures, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking into mounting an electric downrigger on a 272 Sailfish. Just curious to see if anyone else has done it, and if so what are the specifics (location, hardware, etc.). The one I have is a Penn with the 24" shaft, I think I will need to extend it to 48" to clear the transom. Thanks!

I have had good luck with the 200 HPDIs. The 2.6l block is a solid performer. You can also buy the factory Yamaha cable and software (about $250) that lets you hook them to your laptop for troubleshooting. This greatly cuts down on thwe cost of shop repairs when you already know what sensor may...

I agree, I have a Nuvi 750..........the car guys need to get with the boat guys at Garmin. A chartplotter with an interface like a Nuvi would be ideal.
