    Volvo I/O anyone?

I had a volvo DP on my last boat (Wellcraft). Other than the maintenance of the manifolds in saltwater it performed very well. It handled at the dock very well and was quick to get up on plane. If I had an I/O boat to repower, volvo would be tops on my list.

    New Yamaha 4 strokes

I have to agree on the 3.1L big block (250 & 300) HPDIs. Too bad of a reputation. I would be warrry of buying a boat equiped with them. That being said the 2.6l block (150 & 200hp) are very solid motors, and the 200 is still manufactured by Yamaha. I do agree that 4 strokes are the wave of the...

    '86 Sailfish repower options

Just wanted to give a thumbs up on the HPDIs. I currently own 3 of the 200hp models, and they have all run perfectly. If the used ones check out, while there is always a risk, I would seriously consider them.

    282 Sailfish Power Options

Alibi II, I am very interested in a description or picture of your deflector. I managed to hit a limb and crack my radar dome during my last outing. It can be repaired, but I may not be so lucky next time. Thanks!

    282 Sailfish Power Options

If you spend a little extra you can get a tandem with extra heavy duty axles (8 lug). It makes manuevering a lot easier, plus it is rated higher than a standard triple axle. So far it has been worth the extra cost to me.

    282 Sailfish Power Options

F350 quad cab dually deisel. I have a 250 gas burner but have never hooked it up to try. I tow it with the boat fully loaded (tanks and all) plus the five divers in the truck.

    282 Sailfish Power Options

My twin 200HPDIs push the boat very well. I have 5 divers onboard, full fuel and 15 scuba tanks. They push the hull just fine, even with that load. Height is my biggest issue while pulling it, I am constamtly watching for low hanging limbs. I pull it 35 miles one way 2-3 times a month during the...

    200 HPDI Engine Questions

I currently own 3 200 HPDIs (2 boats) and they are perfect for what I do. I run to a spot, dive, and move on. If I trolled a lot a 4s would be a better option. From what I have read, you have to go F250s to get similiar performance but use more fuel than the HPDIs. If the cost of the HPDI is...

What color bottom paint would you recommend

I have black on my Sailfish and would recommend it. It was a light blue when I purchased the boat. It looked horrible.

    Interesting trade

My last boat was a Wellcraft with a Volvo I/O. I did not have any problems with it. You just have to periodically replace the belllows, manifolds, and risers.

    Cuiseaire

Just curious if anyone has ever used a Cruiseaire. I do not need AC very often, so if it works it will save me the cost of a permanent installation. Thanks!

    Yamalube Oil / Ring Free

It is my understanding that ring free is a fuel additive (like seafoam). It is used to clean off carbon buildup. Yamalube or other quality oil also works on carbon buildup by helping prevent it.

    272 Vs. 282

The 1997 and up hull is the same, the windows changed, and later the interior (countertops) and dash. They went from the 272 to 282 designation because the bow pulpit became standard, not an option.

Need Grady help with different models and pros and cons

I have a 272 that I dive up to 5 divers with 3 tanks each by loading Pelican racks up the center. The Sailfish is a good dive platform for the reasons you mentioned above. I prefer a different style ladder than the ones Grady puts on them, but I am getting used to it.

    282 Sailfish vs. 232 Gulfstream

I would say a 3/4 ton for a Sailfish at minimum and would HIGHLY recommend going with a deisel. I tow my 272 (same hull as 282) with a 1 ton deisel and you know the boat is back there.

    Sailfish vs. Islander

The aft birth is a single. There is a fridge, microwave, and single burner. Mine does not have factory heat or AC, if you do a search on here you can see that people have added it after the fact and used a Honda EU2000 generator as power. The head is tight, but useable. I close the door to the...

    Sailfish vs. Islander

I have twin 200 HPDIs and love them. 4 stroke economy with 2 stroke performance and weight (they are cheaper to buy, but tougher to sell). My wife and I "camp out" periodically and share the front birth. It is tight, but can be done. The only thing that I consider a problem is trailering it...

    Sailfish vs. Islander

I went with the Sailfish for the aft birth and the added size. I looked at both and the Sailfish feels like it has a lot more room in the fishing area and helm. Trailering the Islander will be easier, but I am able to trailer my Sailfish without a problem (F350).

    Ladder

Thanks Nitrox32. I am hoping to do something like that. I ussually end up stepping over the transom and on to the back seat as opposed to crossing over to the door. It is a P.I.T.A! Here is a pic from last weekends spearfishing trip.

    Ladder

My 2000 Sailfish has the fold down ladder on the opposite side of the transom door (bad design?). I have seen several photos were Marlin and Sailfish owners have added the removable dive ladder to the transom by the door. I would like to do this, but cannot see how you would get to the bolts...
