Cutting the stern wall of unused fuel tank compartment? ?

That bulkhead and the transom create sort of a box structure, to help support the stress on the transom. I wouldn't cut it, but I would find something useful to do with all that tank space. That is the main tank on my 2000 SF, what the tankage on the one you are using. You get used to pulling...

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

Hold a straight edge on the outside of the windshield, in different spots from corner to corner, and I think you will be surprised how far it intrudes into the helm area, especially if it went to the top. If I were going to do it, I still like my idea in the other thread, to remove the complete...

    Lower unit stuck

I like the opening, where someone is banging on the LU with a steel claw hammer. But my favorite part, around 9:20, after the thing is completely trashed, is when he says, "........AFTER getting really aggressive with it, and the LU still isn't coming off, THEN it's time to figure out what kind...

    Lower unit stuck

3 bolts there. 12mm under the plastic cap holds the zinc from the top, and two 14mm from the bottom after the zinc is out.

Fixing my 228, autopilot and power steering question

I don't know if you usually fish alone, or have company, but pulling traps and/or running on auto pilot are two good reasons to have an overboard kill switch, like a FELL MOB.

Doesn't matter who the fix comes from, I would contact the dealer to coordinate it under warranty.

    192 Repower Question

Tohatsu has always been well respected for their small engines. When the boating world started the conversion to small 4 strokes, there were a lot of boats running Tohatsu engines, with other peoples' brand name on the cowling, and still are. They made a lot of small 4s engines, and some mid...

    GW 330 Express ROD HOLDERS

Bent butt rods come in short butt and long butt, therefore swivel rod holders come in 9 inch and 12 inch. If you have the rods, buy the appropriate holder. If not, shop for both before you order one. I am sure either will fit in the gunnel.

    Cracks Appearing in Hull

When Coosa, or anything else, is used to core the hull side, are pieces end-butted, over-lapped, scarfed, or other, before being glassed over?

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

Wipers will scratch the poly. You might consider a freshwater spray bar, to rinse them before salt spray dries. In your typical day on the water, how often do you use your wipers, and do you typically have the clear vinyl in place above the wind shield?

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

The curved glass makes it a much tougher project than the older style, with the corners. It has been discussed here before, without any real solutions. https://www.greatgrady.com/threads/new-windshield-ideas-for-frame.26410/

    Cracks Appearing in Hull

Measure from the transom to the crack, and maybe someone can come up with a diagram to tell what is in the structural framework at that point.

If you go there often enough, why not leave an unsinkable dinghy on the mooring?

Tapping is good. Also put a straight edge on that fiberglass under the bang plate, and see if there’s any deflection in that area.

Watch out for? Always make sure the plug is in the transom drain before launching the boat. “ If you see something, say something”, is a good practice when trailer boating, especially during the early stages. I was going to say, during the learning period, but that never ends.

    GW 330 Express ROD HOLDERS

What are you fishing for? I think the preferred arrangement is 0* swivel rod holders, and bent but rods. Putting a swivel in the bottom of a 15*, or a 30*, only lets the rod twist, but not turn to the side. Then the handle ends up on top, or on the bottom of the reel.
