Can Gelcoat Stay Shiny Year-Round In Fla?

Thanks for the insight. One of my bad qualities is not being a trailblazer. I have trouble with change and making big decisions. It is helpful to hear your take and others whom I've talked to. It's kinda like a security blanket to know others have done it, are happy and don't look back. It makes...

Can Gelcoat Stay Shiny Year-Round In Fla?

Punta Gorda Isles if it all comes together. The story is long, but the heart of the matter is that I have to decide whether I have enough guts to make a huge lifestyle change, leave familiar surroundings and family and "Just Do It." My Lady has secured a job in that area and is moving down...

Can Gelcoat Stay Shiny Year-Round In Fla?

I fall into the category that both of you do. To me, keeping the boat clean and waxed is part of the fun of ownership for me.

    Fell while washing Voyager today

GW; Ever since I fell, I found regular tennis shoes with the usual grip-design bottoms work fine. Just make sure they're not worn out to where the bottoms are smooth. Otherwise, your in danger again.

Can Gelcoat Stay Shiny Year-Round In Fla?

Alfa1023; Thanks much for taking the time to reply..You also, gOtagrip. Looks like with reasonable care, the boats can stay shiny. The reason I posed the question is all the faded and deteriorated boats that I see when I take canal cruises in Fla. Many look pretty worn but have new outboards...

    Fell while washing Voyager today

Felt your pain..(Literally..) I took a similar dive years ago on my Seafarer, although not as severe as yours. The term "Non-Skid" decking is false advertising... Never go aboard without shoes nowadays...

Can Gelcoat Stay Shiny Year-Round In Fla?

Hey Alfa; Thanks for the kickback. Interesting...I hadn't considered a mooring cover. Your Express must have a hardtop; Does the cover go over the top of the hardtop or does it velcro around the support piping? How many (on average) overcast/cloudy days happen down there? As far as the sides...

Can Gelcoat Stay Shiny Year-Round In Fla?

Awhile back, I asked about different lift scenarios. Here's another..My 232 looks pretty good now. If lift-kept outside year round, can the gelcoat stay shiny with diligent waxing or will it ultimately oxidize and deteriorate no matter what because of the intense Fla. sun? I'd like to hear from...

    Gulfstream with Twin F150s

Just to add to the conversation... My 2007 232 has twin 200's(4-strokes) I get 1.9-2.0, rarely 2.1 MPG at 3600-3800 RPM's cruising between 28-31 MPH. This comes in handy when you want to get somewhere.. I run 4400-4500 and maintain 35-36 MPH. Mileage drops to 1.6-1.7 or so... It'll turn just...

    Boat Lift Info?

Chesapeake; That sounds right to me. At least that's the ball-park safety add-on that I was thinking of. As I mentioned to Bama, the remote is worthy of consideration. Having that would eliminate re-docking the boat once it's floated off to raise the bunks out of the water.

    Boat Lift Info?

Thanks Bama.. I'll peruse the websites of these lift companies. The remote sounds good also.

    Boat Lift Info?

Thanks to you both. Helpful info! I will get in touch with Grady on the bunk measurements. I will also go to Hi-Tide and look it over. Another thing I want to have is a lift wide enough to put planking on either side to access the hull for cleaning and waxing. Kind of a "walkboard" arrangement...

    Boat Lift Info?

The future may have my Gulfstream on a lift in the backyard..Maybe. In the meantime, thought I'd get your all's thoughts. I am not interested in saving pennies here. I want the best protection and stability for the boat. 1.) Capacity? My 232 weighs 10,100 lbs including trailer, full fuel, gear...

    228 Trailer

Your welcome. Hope the trailer works for you. The Seafarer is a good boat. Have a great summer!

    228 Trailer

wrxhoon; Fuel tank was full. It had the 92 gallon tank. No hardtop. Engine was a 2-stroke,(Saltwater Series) The boat was a 228G, I believe. it had the "Grady Drive" Bracket. The boats year was 1992. First year for the SeaV2 hulls, I think. I can't remember the weight of the trailer. It was too...

    228 Trailer

Hey; My Seafarer with a 250 Yamaha loaded with fuel/ice/gear weighed 5800 or so, including trailer. I would suggest 7500-8000 capacity with two 4000 lb axles. 3500 lb minimum. This gives you a cushion. Even though you may not move it much, the boat is supported properly and the trailer will...

    Opinions PLEASE!

450 miles is not that far. When it comes to this kind of commitment, I would drive to see it in person, taking a knowledgeable friend with you if possible. With a boat of this age, there are all sorts of stuff that could hit you now and later. I would not buy that old of a boat sight unseen...

Dual Engines on a 232 Gulfstream

Oh, and one other thing.. When you get in position to spin the boat around to back into the slip..For example, you leave the port engine in forward and put the starboard engine in reverse, give the starboard engine a bit more gas, revving it up slightly more than the port one. That will help...

Dual Engines on a 232 Gulfstream

I have a 232 with twin 200's. Granted, it isn't as maneuverable as an inboard rig, but it can be spun around and you can back it into a slip with reasonable control if there isn't a lot of wind and current. Tilt the engines up to the "shallow water running position." I mean trim it up to where...

    Repower Gulfstream 232

For two weeks a year's use, I would spend no more than you have to and fix the existing problems with your current engines. I think repowering would be warranted if you were able to spend more time using the boat.
