Here we go again...maybe hi fuel costs

I'll tell you how it affects me.. 1.) Tie and fender off fuel dock at Hawks Cay, mid-January 2012. 2.) Attendant hands me fuel nozzle; I begin filling my 3/4 empty 150 gallon tank on my 232 Gulfstream 3.) Aware of the $5.12 pump price, I start wondering what the tab will be. 4.)I hadn't long to...

    FREEDOM 335

I agree with Grog.. I overnite on my Gulfstream off-and-on all summer. I want no part of any boat without a cabin. That said, if, indeed, Grady has made a smart marketing move with this boat, it will benefit us all in the long run by helping keep the company solvent and on the map. Not my idea...

    1988 Gulfstream232 project?

There are experts on this forum that can talk intelligently on the hurdles and expenditures you'll encounter if you take it on. My comment is aimed toward your state of mind.. Meaning.. 1.) If you have lots of inner drive, are ambitious and enjoy a challenge it might be worth it. 2.) You are...

Thinking about a upgrade to a Grady..Thoughts, Opinions??

Re: Thinking about a upgrade to a Grady..Thoughts, Opinions? My Gulfstream fits my lifestyle in every way. I agree with Rainmaker about the overnite aspects. My Lady and I are comfortable staying for weeks on my Gulfstream, but it's just the two of us. Any more and it wouldn't work...

Hard top on 208: enclosure vs. none

If your sure you'll move the boat in 2-3 years in favor of a larger one, I wouldn't mess with the hassle and expense of a hardtop. Just use your Bimini/Canvas combo that you have now and your next larger boat will probably have the hardtop.(If you get another Grady.) Seems like a lot of money...

    QUESTIONS--Towing a 208 w- a Grand Cherokee

I think the amount of driving and distance is a factor here. 70-odd miles to-and-from the ramp twice a year shouldn't be a problem. If he tows hundreds of miles up and down steep mountain grades then I would re-think the tow vehicle. Driving habits would make or break it too. A smart driver...

    Raw Water Washdown Question.

You and others I've talked to. Some pumps seem to lead a charmed life. Me? Murphy's Law has followed me pretty closely in the past, so before I induce salt water into mine, I though I'd get some other opinions. I don't fish, so my dockside freshwater hose has been fine for cleaning after...

    Raw Water Washdown Question.

Thanks All; I was not, and probably should have been, aware of a device that flushed the system. I am only in salt water for 3 weeks a year in the Keys, and the rest of the time I'm in Northern Michigan, where no flushing is needed. Thanks again for the feedback and here's hoping your Bahama...

    Raw Water Washdown Question.

To all of you who use your washdown in salt water(which I assume is most of you); how do you keep the unit from crystallizing and corroding when it sits for periods of time unused? We flush our engines to keep the same salt-oriented deterioration from happening. Is it different with a raw-water...

    Running engine on flush hose

If he used the muffs that attach to the lower unit, that is normal procedure for running an engine while the boat is drydocked. Surely a certified Yamaha guy would do that as opposed to the side hose attachment. In either case, I would tell him about the warning buzzer or lite that came on...

    Running engine on flush hose

I just saw I didn't answer the question. If it was me, I would fret over it and get it checked by a qualified Yamaha guy for peace of mind. Hopefully some of the folks here will give a more educated answer.

    Running engine on flush hose

Interesting. I would consider it a red flag no-no if he ran water for testing thru the flush hose as opposed to the muffs that you attach to the lower unit. Your speaking of the threaded flush attachment on the side of the cowling for a garden hose, right? I use that to flush my engines...

How many hours can you expect to get out of a 4 stroke?

I'm guessing it's like any other engine; The more you run it, the less chances for problems. My 1999 Toyota Corolla has 367,000 miles on it and I drive it everywhere all the time. The pro charter guys replicate the same scenario on the water; those engines stay lubed up and loose and don't sit...

    Advice for a 2002 Gulfstream w/single 225 4 Stroke

Echo what Fishermanabb said earlier. My biggest concern would be running the mil at 5000 RPM's or close to it all the time to maintain cruise. Other than that just hope for calm winds and negligable currents while docking or anchoring. I have a 2007 232 with twin 200 4-strokes and I wouldn't...

    Trailering 282 Sailfish

Depends.. If is gas, you'll lose your shirt in fuel costs towing it any distance. Even if it's diesel-powered, a 3/4 is a bit light duty to tow much beyond short trips to the launch ramp or your local marina. You also risk premature wear-and-tear of transmission, drive line components, engine...

    Motor selection for Seafarer 22

Not sure about proper leg height, but I am certain that a 150 HP is too small. I owned a Seafarer circa 1992 for 10 years and ordered a 250 for it. Great combo and plenty of power. I would say a 225 would be good also, minimum 200.

    Winter storage question

CWOT is right. I had a Seafarer 22 for 10 years and barely got it in my mini-barn. 9 Ft. should get you in with a bimini, height-wise, but it measured 30-odd feet from the hitch ball aft to the props.

    Upgrading my ride, experiences needed

I owned the boat in question for 10 years, 22 bracketed Seafarer 250 Yamaha, circa 1992. Neat boat. A great all-purpose rig; trailerable yet big enough to go out a ways given reasonable conditions. Slept 2 comfortably in the berth and it looked great too. Ride..I would call it adequate to good...

    Grand Cay, Abaco, Bahamas

Great pics and fun story to read and mentally follow along to. My fav. shots are the sandbar pics during your swim. 2nd would be the poolside shot early on in your trip. (I'm not much into fishing..) Do you always run with your canvas up? I noticed that on the shots of the return trip. Does the...

232 with bracket and swim platform

Not sure why the silicone would have been applied.. My guess (and it is a guess) on the cracks around the swim platform ladder is that while on it's trailer, people used the ladder to enter the boat. They probably didn't realize they were forcing the ladder to bear all their weight since the...
