    Wishing You and Yours....

Running late here.. Hoping all have a great 2013. With all the goofy crap going on, let's remember we are able to live, work and boat in a free society. We don't have to look far to see many that have it worse than we do. Our country is still wonderful, despite all the nutcases trying to run...

Trade the Grady for a bay boat?

I'm with Fishtales. There are several Center Consoles, Grady's included that are a more dedicated fishing platform than your Freedom, plus with a CC, you'll have greater rough water capability, therefore more destination options. I know dual consoles are the rage nowadays, but when you try to...

    Gulfstream v. Journey

Capt. Ed; As we've been discussing, I have the 200's on my 232, but they are 2007's. I have not seen the new 200's; Did they change the cowling like they did the 250's, 300's and 350's? cg; Interesting...You get slightly better than me at a higher RPM register. Mine are as follows. At 3600-3800...

    Gulfstream v. Journey

Hi cg; My cruising speeds are close to yours. A combination of swell and surface chop as you describe would keep me in the mid 20's. To answer your question in a general sense, if I'm in less than 2-footers I run about 27-29 mph. Calm conditions I run 32-33 at 3900-4000 and tab according to...

    Gulfstream v. Journey

I agree with what grady23 says overall. My input would be on power. I have the Gulfstream with twin 200's and it's a perfect match. Look at the specs on the grady site. The 200's will be the same fuel burn as the 150's because they don't have to run as hard. I would assume they would last...

move 228 grady from houston to seattle

One more idea.. There are towing/transport services you can engage if you don't want to mess with it yourself. I have no clue what they'd charge. There are guys on this board that have used them, I think.

move 228 grady from houston to seattle

Hi; It's a long trip, but towing a 228 is not that big a deal. Things to think about. 1.) Your tow vehicle. It needs to be a good 1/2 ton truck at the least. Gas power is fine, a 3/4 ton diesel will do the job better and get better mileage, but it isn't necessary. 2.) Speaking of mileage...

Why leave? Just bypass the spam and click on posts you want to read. I wish ocnsir would stay too. I like reading his stuff. I don't like it but it doesn't bother me that much.

    canyon 306 top speed

Is there a chance your speedo on the Yams might be plugged up, giving you a slower reading? Mine gets a piece of seaweed or whatever in it often. If your using your GPS on your chartplotter, then your back to square-1. What are your rev's at top speed?

    Voyager vs. Gulfstream

My comment here is like GW VOYAGER'S, only in reverse. I have a Gulfstream and love it. I have not been on a Voyager, but, I, too, have heard positive comments about them. Since trailering isn't a factor with Morehead's choice, put that aside. Beam plays into the choice in other ways. 1.)...

    36 express

Dieler is right.. I would only add as a person who loves to anchor on sandbars and the like..A 36' footer is a big boat to anchor close to shore in windy conditions or if a tidal current is present. It's one thing to hit the "down" toggle position on the windlass behind the helm and drop anchor...

    what truck to buy?

I prefer a Diesel over gas for towing. Case-in-point. I acquired my current Gulfstream 232 and it weighed in at 10,100 Lbs. at the Cat Scale. I had a 3/4 Chev. 454 circa 1998. It pulled it OK, but got 8 MPG and wouldn't stop it. I bought a 2007 Dodge Dually Diesel and couldn't be happier...

    fuel mileage comparison

Since everyone is chiming in with stats for other boats than the Marlin in question, I'll give my Gulfstream numbers.. 1.9 to 2.1 MPG running between 3700-4000 RPM, running 29 MPH at 3700 and 33 MPH at 4000-4100 RPM. Power is twin 200 Yamaha 4-strokes. I think it's reasonable to assume...

Boat ramp in Marathon FL suitable for Marlin

Hawks Cay Marina, MM# 62 or so. It's kind of tight trailering in there.. It's a small parking/turnaround area with shrubs and low palms, but the water is deep enough and the ramp is wide and top-notch. You'll have to go out into the Straits thru the perimeter canal that leads past the dolphin...

How long is too long in the water w/o bottom paint

eppem; In his opening question, he says he won't bottom paint as he has made rack storage arrangements. There is no need to paint a hull if it will always be rack stored. There is the cost of re-painting every few years, and whatever performance loss he incurs due to the paint. Besides, it's a...

How long is too long in the water w/o bottom paint

ahill is correct. Leave it in a month and you'll have a big cleaning job. I would keep it on dry land. A month is not that long to wait for rack storage, and I would personally hate to mess up a new hull with the crap that would undoubtedly grow on it in the slip.

    Scratched engine covers

A tech handed me the cowling on my starboard engine preperatory to unclogging the speedo tube (inaccurate MPH readings due to sediment entering the pitiot tube) and I dropped the cowling on the cement below me. (My slick wax job was my undoing..It slipped right out of my hands.) I am a bit of...

Can Gelcoat Stay Shiny Year-Round In Fla?

Thanks Bob; Good to hear from you. Isn't your Bahamas trip getting close? Vacationing down there regularly, I am aware of the crowds and I, too, have experienced rising stress when a simple trip to Publix takes waaay longer than it should, taking away from my beach/boating time. I also am aware...
