    F300 Repower - Early Observations

This is a great example of how increasing your HP can result in better economy and higher speed. There are many who automatically assume that less HP = less fuel burn. Plus, the engine works less to achieve better numbers per a given RPM, which translates to longer engine life. I suppose there...

    On-Board Charger for Winter Storage

I assume we're talking the same thing. My charger is set up so I run an AC cord from the plug-in onboard to a wall outlet. The indicator mounted in the bilge has a red lite while charging. When the batteries reach a fully charged state, the lite goes green. At that point, my dealer told me to...

Market hit bottom? 1997, 33 Tiara on ebay sold for 65K

Sounds about right. I have seen several boats going for 1/2 of their initial value. No one can predict whether the market "has" or "will" hit bottom. Especially the nutcases in Washington that got us into this mess to begin with. An unfortunate by-product of this current economic crisis is...

how often to get boat detailed....

Waxing and cleaning IS part of the fun for me. I don't fish and sometimes I spend a couple days in the slip onboard without casting off. It's easy to clean things during that time. Boat looks great and I satisfy my OCD tendencies. Getting up at 5:00 AM and going offshore all day seems like a lot...

how often to get boat detailed....

Hey Gary M. I understand.Your Marlin is a bit bigger than my Gulfstream. Question..Do you experience any fading/discoloration/chalking of your gel with the wax schedule your doing now? For most people's practical, real-life scenarios, I'm probably over doing it. Here's the thing; The more...

    282 Questions

Salinity.. Couple things.. 1.) Make sure whatever trailer you get with your GW is framed and sprung adequately AND has big enough axles to safely support the hull. I will not rant on this again, as I have talked about it in the past, but dealers will sell undersized trailers with the boat as a...

how often to get boat detailed....

If your going to keep it outside and/or in the water where it's exposed 24/7 I would wax it once a month. I keep mine in the water July thru Sept. and wax it once every 3 weeks. Looks really good, no fading or oxidization. I'm pretty obsessive/complusive so this might be more commitment than...

    Bone Head Thing

Hi Buckster.. Sure...Big Sarasota Pass, 2005 or so. Preparing to anchor at a tidal island, current strong with incoming tide. Son's at the helm of his Donzi ZX CC. Spins mid-channel to stern in. Bow anchor is deployed, I stand ready aft with stern anchor in hand. Boats anchored either side, we...

Trailer plate for out of state purchase?

Good! Glad it went well. Enjoy it to the max.. I'm assuming Lake Erie? If so where? The Islands? Cleveland? Conneaut? We're in a heat wave here..Splash that thing while you still can. Will you trailer everywhere or will you slip it for the season? I seem to have lots of questions tonite...

Trailer plate for out of state purchase?

I would think the bill of sale (proof of purchase) would be sufficent to get you home.

    Purchase choices gulfstream

To add to yankeecause.. You also will need permits to tow it if you want to be legal. It is 9' 3". When you add your gear, fuel, ice, etc. you'll hit way North of 6000 lbs. A 3/4 or full-ton diesel rig is your best bet, especially if you are going any distance.

    Pursuit vs Grady

I think Striped Bass has it figured out. In this day-and-age, the bottom line has to be the most boat sales to the widest potential buying market. If the builders can sell more boats by making them more family-friendly, why wouldn't they? As far as the Grady/Pursuit topic here, from what I...

    2stroke vs 4stroke

The Yamaha-Grady White partnership has given me hundreds of hours of trouble-free boating. My selling dealer told me the Yamaha 4-strokes were the way to go. I said "ok." I have been happy ever since. I don't see anything wrong with aligning yourself with and trusting a dealer unless he steers...

    Which Seafarer to choose????

This is not apples-to-apples, but I sea-trialed a 208 Adventure in 1994 prior to purchasing my 92 Seafarer. The 208 was pre-SeaV2, the Seafarer I purchased was the 1st year of the SeaV2 hulls. I couldn't tell that much of a difference, even thought the 208 was a smaller boat. If I were making...

    2stroke vs 4stroke

Yep.. I remember the Bearcats and the Homelites. Close to the same era. I wonder if they had a "Johnson And Evinrude" thing going on where they were identical engines with different cowlings. I remember the Bearcat 55 and the Homelite 55 and 90 HP models. If you want to add one more bit of...

Towing a Gulfstream with a Tacoma

Have you actually weighed it at a public scale? Reason for asking is mine with twin 200's weighs 10,100 lbs. Admittedly, I tow with full fuel, ice in the livewell, etc. The weight difference between our boats seems unusually large to me. If your weight is what you have computed, I would think a...

    2stroke vs 4stroke

My dealership told me that the 4 strokes never come back for repairs.(Well, probably "almost" never.) So.. 1.) if their more reliable 2.) If their eventually going by the wayside, then trying to resell the boat would become a concern 3.)The economy is the same or better These seem strong...

    2stroke vs 4stroke

I have a Gulfstream, but I would have done the following with a Sailfish. I wanted 200 HDPI's for their reputation, weight and overall performance. Folks here said they were the "perfect" power for my 232. When I purchased the Gulf in 2007, I found Grady was no longer installing 2-strokes on...

    Canvas/eisenglass/ 2008 Gulfstream 232

Ed is right..it needs to be addressed. I didn't have any patience, so as stated in my post above, I went to a canvas shop and had it adjusted. I can't remember the cost, but it wasn't much. Took the girl a couple hours, I think. By the time you wait for Grady or the canvas-maker or whoever to...
