    How to mount

How do you plan to flush mount and still be able to close the panel? At one point this was my plan but the combination of the displays thickness when flush mounted and the locking mechanism means I would have had to put a spacing on the flush mount to recess it further back. Any reason you...

Salty dogs and why I love this forum

I agree but the tidbits everyone gives here can be seen as the cliff notes or shortcut of trying to figuring it all out. Some of the advice I received I probably would not have come up with but I tried all of the advice and applied them to a particular degree to figure it all out. Don’t shy...

Salty dogs and why I love this forum

Going slow is key but also gives you the false sense that you will have no issue docking because of your speed. My biggest challenge is with the enclosures on. Late in the year, I adjusted my approach that allowed me to better understand the conditions. Basically, I would put the boat into...

    Replacing cockpit floor drains

Agree, I am the same way. As an example, you would think a showroom boat would have a cleaner job on the cockpit drain than the one in KY Grady’s pics. The one he did looks professionally done and looks integrated with the floor vs the one that was done at the factory.

    Replacing cockpit floor drains

I was hoping to do mine this weekend but weather isn’t going to cooperate... Been meaning to ask, why did you do one hose 30 and the next 29? Wouldn’t you want as much hose as possible on the fittings?

    Replacing cockpit floor drains

Think they wanted 40 per a drain, shipping of 15 or so plus a surplus charge for China. I am picking 2 up from my local Grady dealer for 100, including tax.

    Won't start on #2 battery

Here are pics of my two batteries for reference with an ox66 225. Might help you figure out if you are missing anything

    Won't start on #2 battery

It’s definitely a pain to take out that battery by the oil tank but it’s worth it. I wish I would have gone that route. Either do the advice above orswap batteries to see if battery or cable/ switch issue. Then go from there. Out of curiosity, how many grounds do you have on battery #1? I...

    Won't start on #2 battery

If replacing your switch, check to see if you have an Aux wire. If so, go with the 5511e battery switch. Huge fan of it since installing to have two seperate circuits on boat. Otherwise, look into the kit with ACR

Removing aux tank on 1999 268 islander

Wish this post was up before I just cleanly sealed all my hatches last week. I do know that water ran into my bilge and out the drain plug after I sprayed it. What I don’t know if each of the compartments are separated on my 228 (main tank vs water tank vs Aux tank) so maybe the water tank one...

    Won't start on #2 battery

So you turn the key and hear the starter cranking but engine doesnt run? Did you try again after getting it to run on battery #1? Before going crazy, I would swap the batteries and see if battery 2 in the first battery’s location works and try #1 in 2nd battery’s location. You can then...

Removing aux tank on 1999 268 islander

Not following... Where does the compartment drain? I thought Grady recommends spraying water into those deck hatches to wash off the tanks. If they don’t go to the bilge, where do they flow?

    Won't start on #2 battery

Check your crossover between the two batteries. I had a similar issue and thought it was a bad battery but the ground connecting the two batteries was not connected.. Then start looking at the cable to the switch to see if properly connected and no resistance issues.

    Bottom Paint Questions

Thanks everyone....Ended up sanding the boat today and have a few more questions... 1. For the thinner, my paint calls for 120. Do you guys use that or some thinner at HD/ Lowe’s? 40 for a quart seems absurd 2. When painting multiple coats, do you need to wait entirely for the paint to...

Thanks...just bought some braid to try on my bay poles... What’s the deal with the knot pullers? When I tighten the knots with mono and Fluoro, I just wrap it around my hand and slowly pull and tug. Can you not do the same with braid?

Thanks for the feedback.... Was about to buy 500 yards for two Penn Battle that I use in the Bay until your feedback. Going with mono as a backer now, then braid with mono leader... If I do 20lb braid, should I do the same lb test for the mono backer? Or go with what I usually put, which is 12lb

    NJ re Fishing Line

So you do the same as skunk boat? Mostly braid with 36" or whatever length to your first guide? I saw some articles on how they do about 3/4 of their capacity with braid and then the rest with mono as its more cost effective to simply replace the mono rather than the braid. However, doesn't...

    NJ re Fishing Line

Agreed - I'm going to try it on a new spinning reel I just bought and see how I like it next year. I hope the bird nesting isn't anymore common than with Fluoro. One of the fluoro leaders I bought was so smooth that it would just fly off the reel and eventually bird nest right before it hit...
