    OX66 Oil drip/ leak

Thanks for the feedback. Cleaned underneath everything so I can see where the oil is leaking from. It was really dirty in the middle so curious if that’s where it’s leaking from but it could have been 20 years of grime building up there. I’ll be back to the boat on Wednesday so will see then...

Chart plotter and battery wiring question

I just replaced the switch today. Took about an hour or two to get the screws out. Ended up just drilling them out. I bought the 187 and 285....Neither was the right size but I used the 1/4in one and made the hole on my terminals just a little bigger to fit. Haven’t tested to see if this...

    9" GPS/Bottom machine

Just correcting myself after checking another site this AM. Looks like my notes are off....11.5 is width while 6.5 is height for the 9in

    9" GPS/Bottom machine

Don’t think the Garmin 9in will fit your setup. The screen height is 11.5 in or so. For your setup, you mayneed to take a look at the Simrad/ Ray Marine 7in screens.

    OX66 Oil drip/ leak

Yes, feels and smells like oil but is a little diluted. I don’t use any corrosion inhibitor after I run the boat but do flush it through the port and wash it down. I don’t see the oil during the day, mostly overnight it happens with the change of temp. Driving me crazy as everything feels...

    OX66 Oil drip/ leak

Following up to this, I am still seeing a slight leak on my bracket. Is this oil or something else? I am clueless as to what is leaking because the reserve and all hoses leaving and going to it are clean. What are thoughts? Is this oil? Where could it be leaking from?

    New fishfinder/gps shopping

I’m in the market as well right now for a new gps/ Fishfinder. So far, the best deals were from Black Friday last year with the Garmin’s about 35% or so at West Marine, including transducer and offshore maps. The late June specials were pretty close as well. My plan is basically what...

    Thru Hull Hose Replacement

What does the inside of those thru hulls look like? My exteriors look the same, I believe they are chrome rather than stainless steel. I have the same question as you....Should they be replaced due to safety concerns or is it more an aesthetic change as they don’t look nice?

    Any New Zealand owners here?

Definitely enjoyed reading this thread and the various perspectives everyone has. Having lived abroad for a couple of years in London and then another 2 years in Madrid, "Home" really is whatever place pulls you strongly in that direction. You can say it is where family is or where you want...

    Bought a 2000 Seafarer 228

All of the above is accurate regarding the freshwater tank and fuel tank size. I also have a 2000 228. How come you installed the NMEA network? Has your boat been repowered? Maybe my thinking is wrong, but I was thinking of doing that once I repower and get new gauges. Plan is to get a new...

    Thru Hull Hose Replacement

When replacing the hoses, how did you end up reconnecting the hoses to the internal connections? On my 228, the external connection points are easy, but I don't see some of where the hoses connect to in the iceboxes, etc. Did you just pull up those drains, reconnect the hose, fed back through...

    Fuel caps leaking

Agree with the above. There was an older post here that mentioned the fuel cap leaking after filling up when the tank was filled/ overfilled. Since reading that, if either of my tanks overflowed at the pump or came close to it, I run on that tank for a good 5-10 mins at speed. More...

Fuel gauge question - what to trust?

As one that does “trust” their fuel gauge being new to the boat, I can say that fueling (aka listening to the gas flowing) and where the gauge was at prior the fueling shows how inaccurate the gauge is. I have had the gauge at 2 bars on several occasions and each time the amount I put in seemed...

Chart plotter and battery wiring question

So I tried to take mine apart this morning to figure out if I should get the 5/16 or 1/4 version but could unscrew the the terminals to figure out... Any recommendations on what I can use to loosen the screw? I cut out all of the solvent that was used to cover the terminal but still no luck...

    fender foolishness

Even more of a Newb move is to be going out a channel at speed and then cutting your engine in the middle of the channel to unhook your bumpers. In that same channel, I saw a guy last week that moored his boat to one of the channel markers while he fished.

New Boat Order - Kicker choices

Out of curiosity, why a kicker vs one of those minn Kotas off the bow? I was envious of this guy who sat in the back fishing while his minn Kota piloted him between narrow passageways of boats. It was letting him drift while we sat dead in the water. He was the only one pulling in fluke by...

    electronics upgrade

I was researching this last night but most of my old equipment is Furuno. It seemed as if my old radar dome (RSB-0087) is not compatible with newer units based on the forums online. I would still research it and try to get a unit that is compatible as those domes are not cheap, if you are lucky.

    Seafarer 228 Electronics

The single panel setup is what I was thinking of doing but need to repower first and get new gauges. However, I was looking into something like this that I saw on Facebook. Might be another option for those that don’t want to lose that storage and want a 9in screen. Still throwaway if I go...
