It may just need some maintenance. If you haven't 'touched' it for the 4 years you owned it, it will most certainly need maintenance. Hopefully you did do unnecessary damage to it. Have you changed the lower unit oil, fuel filters, etc routinely?

If you look at the OP last message, it it seems that this isn't a bad ground issue but rather a user induced NO ground issue. Many of us, including myself, have left off a bround battery common cable after reinstalling a battery back. No mysteries here, just a small chuckle.

It's looking more like a bad steering cable/box to me or a problem with the steering tube. If the motor moves side to side easily AND the bracket in question also moves then It cant be the bracket that is binding. What am I missing here??

Ig using oxalic acid, avoid getting it on a galvanized trailer and if it does get on the trailer have a hose ready to rinse it off. This applies to a lot of hull cleaners also that contain oxalic acid
