On the water impressions of my 228

For the freshwater, did any water come from the sink? What about the wash down on the stern? I have a 2000 and I noticed the wash down was a little weak but functional. I just brought my boat in to get worked on. The alarm was sounding at 500-600RPMs and would go away at 700-800. Prior to...

    Drifting Speed Concern

Thanks...Next time you use it, I am curious if you can make note of your speed first without it then with it. I am going to start jotting down my various drifting speeds under different conditions. Wind was howling this weekend so I didn’t even bother as it was conditions I shouldn't have gone...

    Bumpers/fenders on a 228?

Don’t worry, it gets easier! I’m about a month ahead of you learning the 228 and how it handles. Last time I had a boat was when I was 16 and I used it daily never with a worry in mind. Fast forward 20 years and I am worrying about everything, but starting to get my feet underneath me, which...

    2008 228 wiper replacement

All the posts I have seen on here and Facebook seem to be for earlier model years. If you had no luck with ANCO, have you tried just taking it to Napa and see if they can match it for you? That seems to be the alternative that some folks have done.

    OX66 Starter Issue

Going with it being a bad starter solenoid. Dropped it off at the marina for them to rebuild it (once they confirm that it’s the issue) and to address the poppet valve (assuming they determine that to be the cause of the alarm). Hope to get it back next weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed that...

228 Seafarer re: Stern Seat back cushions

Any chance you can take a pic the next time you are by your boat? Trying to visualize how these connect and how you attached them

    Drifting Speed Concern

Yep...tried that. Part of me think it’s the combination of wind direction and tide I am fishing at....today was the best yet with me doing the usual, But the lines went more to the side...still going to the stern but at least I could say they were off the port side

    OX66 Starter Issue

Within the last week, my OX66 stopped cranking over without intervention. Last week, it made a whirring noise but didn’t crank over. Today, I just heard it click. In both cases, I took the cowel off and sprayed WD40 and tapped the solenoid. After a bit, it turned on. I use my boat every 4-7...

    Drifting Speed Concern

Thats some assortment there. What’s the size of each of them and impact they have on your drift?

    Drifting Speed Concern

I definitely need to test out different factors before going with a drift sock. I was happy the difference that removing the enclosures made but now need to figure out how to drift sideways in my boat. Saturday was the first day that I was able to stay in a drift for an extended period of time...

    Drifting Speed Concern

With my 228, I learned that with the full enclosures up and a little wind, my boat moves way too fast to properly drift for Fluke. I then removed the enclosures thinking it would help, but the hardtop still seems to cause an odd drifting direction and pace. Although there was a significant...

New guy here with a few questions about a 228 Seafarer

I just bought my 2000 228 Seafarer in the Fall. Unless repowered, I didn’t see any with 250 that went on the market. Some were available with just a Bimini top but once I heard the cost for replacing with a hardtop, I narrowed my search down to those with hardtop. Also, full enclosures is...

    OX66 Alarm Question

Haha...That’s my fear. Spent good money doing all the maintenance as if it wasn’t done by previous owner. However, nervous that something was overlooked or just defective. I’ll take a look at the poppet valve and figure out everything that is needed. Saw people saying don’t just replace but...

    OX66 Alarm Question

Ok is the poppet valve an easy replacement? What kind of damage could it cause if not replaced timely? It doesn’t happen all the time Has anyone replaced theirs recently? I read a few articles on THT and supposedly the orientation of the part changed at some point, giving the impression it’s...

    OX66 Alarm Question

It’s the tachometer, doing from memory and forgot that’s with the RPMs as well... I do not think it’s the oil alarm but wondering if something is going on there. It’s the overheating one that is circled. Will periodically flash

    OX66 Alarm Question

One other item to add....I think my oil gauge is off as it always reads as full. I am not sure what is considered as full but the oil tank was halfway filled and then went down to an inch above where the two curves are at the bottom but always read as filled. since both the overheat alarm...

    OX66 Alarm Question

I would like to rule out the water pump as it was replaced earlier this year. Poppet valve wasn’t. how would I know if it was the poppet valve? Also, what about the oil tank reserve? I thought I read there was one on the engine and curious where it is.

    Seafarer 228 Handling Advice

Well, using the trim tabs to handle lowering and raising the bow made a huge difference. Never thought of using them in this manner and it was amazing. Definitely a different thinking in mind when under way now as I only considered them when correcting a lean one way or the other. Now, I...

    OX66 Alarm Question

I have been going through a few threads with no luck. My 2000 225 OX66 has the alarm on the oil/ trim gauge go off randomly. The only commonality is that it goes off when in neutral while I am warming up the engine (rarely) and when I am coming back from a trip idling to my dock. I can avoid...
