Yamaha Tech in Boston area/What to look for used f300

It would be in your interest to have the motor run. Any decent marina/marine repair shop should be able to set that up. While the motor is powered, the ECU data should be dumped and looked at. I would at a minimum have the exhaust stack inspected, the lower unit oil drained and checked for...

    2020 235 Freedom/Yamaha/Battery Issues

Did you remove any battery cables when you added the charger? Take a look for a jumper cable (battery cable size) that connects the negative of battery 1 to battery 2 It is easy to miss it when reconnecting.

    Live Well on Fisherman 236

It looks like it would be relatively easy to slip a sheet of screen behind the slotted plastic. That would stop small stuff from getting into the drain but the screen would clog up over time and might be a pain to clean. Another idea would be to use adhesive Velcro tape and a screen pressed on...

Information on the Sale of a 257 Advance?

You should note that I added a smile. The statement was just humor. Secondly, if you had done all those steps, why not let us know? Good luck with your sale.

Information on the Sale of a 257 Advance?

I don't think I am going to do your homework for you:) The typical process is to look up comparable listings, adjust for option or issues, factor for wear and tear and any options added Keep in mind that listings are the asking prices and not necessarily what the sales prices are/ You can also...

    Grady 360 w/Suzuki 300s

Those numbers seem correct. I think I would talk to a good prop shop for advice. It would help to know the specs of the current props.

How shallow can GW 235 freedom go

Your logic sounds backwards to me depending on what keel offset you are referring to, positive or negative. In theory, the level you want to know is the distance from the sea floor to the bottom edge of the lowest skeg. That distance as mentioned will be less than the actual water depth.

    Grady 360 w/Suzuki 300s

What are the shaft lengths of the zukes? Do you know the shaft lengths of the old motors? What you are calling cavitation is probably blowout. I doubt that the switch to 4 blades is the cause if the blowout is as bad as you state. The props may be wrong in general though and I don't know for...

No power at fuse panel - Freedom 235

They are not too bad in 'dry' bilges but wet ones can cause corrosion and failures.

    Live Well on Fisherman 236

Mesh screen would be fine. An old raw water strainer mesh filter would be great. You could also try some window screen cloth. Is the overflow you mention the plug in standpipe type? If so it will be easy to wrap some screening around the cap. If your overflow is a thru fitting on the side...

No power at fuse panel - Freedom 235

If removing the fuse made all the things that didn't work, now work, there is something very strange going on.Very strange...

No power at fuse panel - Freedom 235

100A sounds large for an accessory panel feed but it could be a feed for a windlass. The fist question is what gauge is the wire that the 'fuse' feeds. Also, was it a fuse or a circuit breaker?

    265 Express Engine Options

I think there was an article a while back on typical recreational hour usage for boaters and something like 90 percent run less than 100 hours a year. Think about it; if you boat in a seasonal weather area and you go out every weekend for a few hours you probably run 500 hours or less. In my...

Cleaned the caulking on my deck with Soft Scrub with bleach - worked amazingly well!

My original owners manual (2001) states that bleach should not be used on the fiberglass. Bleach can yellow gel coat. Nevertheless I do use Softscrub on my boat for stubborn stains. I do thoroughly rinse with fresh water and don't let it sit for prolonged periods of time. Softscrub is mildly...

    Compass location revisited.

Assuming the new pump has a permanent magnet motor, degaussing wouldn't be such a good idea (nor would it most likely be possible). :) Many ears back I worked on a project that used lots of small cube speakers. Stray magnetic fields were a problem for adjacent electronics so the maker of the...

Stern Eye Damage.. Is it rotten?

Can't tell just by the pics if the damage to do to overload ( very fixable) or core softness ( could mean big problems). Your surveyor should be able to tell.

    Compass location revisited.

By same outcome, you mean the compass needle is always pinned to the same reading? If so, I would call the pump manufacturer to see if that have ant suggestions. You may need to relocate the pump.

How shallow can GW 235 freedom go

Let's face it. If you boat in waters that are close to the draft plus extended equipment, at some point or more likely multiple times you will touch bottom. The two most important factors are how hard or soft your bottoms are and also how fast you run aground. You may think you are OK but may...

    265 Express Engine Options

The inline 4 200 is a great motor ( so far) There will be torque differences between f225s and I4s BUT the I4s weigh less and that probably will make up for the difference in HP.. What is the asking price difference between the two boats? Personally, I would almost always opt for the newer (by...

    Electrical Mystery

Note what I said about using a 12 volt test lamp. It is a better tool than a multimeter to find bad connections. You can pick up a cheap one for a couple of dollars at Harbor Freight
