    265 hatch removal cover

Oh, right. You mentioned that the first time and I glossed right over it! :) Which makes sense... I still couldn't see how sch 40 PVC could bend like that without heating it... but conduit, sure.

Chris, what prop are you running? Are you trimming up properly? I suspect your boat and mine are very similar? I can hit about 5,500RPM (which is the max for my engine). I'm running the Yamaha 17M prop (15-1/4x17).

Oh, that's sch 40? It looked grey. Thanks, Skunk!

I'm not even sure I know where to begin. But I do know how to make my life easier. I'm going to heed the advice that a couple members suggested to me.

Yamaha 175hp 1995 175TXRT Replace Steering Bracket Assembly

Thanks for starting to clarify it, Enfish, but it's still a little confusing. And the reason I'm asking again is that it sounds like (and I hope it's the case for your sake!) that the issue is really with the attachment between the cables and the steering arm. How did you verify that the...

Skunk, is that sch 80? Hmmm... I like that. I assume you gently heated it to bend it? I've bent pvc before to make things such as a custom rigging tube... but it never dawned on to do something like you did. How long have those pieces been around? I like working on the boat in the winter...

I'm well aware of ceramics (I did ceramic headers, for the first time, nearly a quarter century ago), silicone, the dyamics of conduction, radiation & convection and the 2nd grade science lessen of heat rises. When you said that temps in an engine bay are 400*, that statement comes across as...

    Those two statements sound contradictory?

What does silicone and ceramic have to do with a simple rubber hose? To be honest, I figured you were going to bring that up and was waiting for it. What does the temp of a header have to do with something on top of an engine that's being cooled by air and coolant? You still haven't answered...

    Mustang, you are 100% correct.

Experience with hundreds of engines (some cars, but mostly boats) in not an opinon. OK. Do the video. Prove me wrong. And... somehow the windshield washer fluid in cars defy physics? But, you've really gotten the intent of this thread and discussion about heat/cold on rubber out of whack...

That's interesting. I did a little more digging, as well, and you are right that it seems the primary difference is the fire rating with "A" being rated while "B" is not. Maybe it's the silver coating that some manufacturers use that is typically seen on B1 hose that gives it a better UV...

Nope. Rubber in an engine bay breaks down sooner than outside of the engine bay. That's not from any silly googling - that's from being around engines my whole life and working on them. In other words, real life experience. You're welcome to google some more and find more info to back up...

I only looked quickly to try and compare two "same" engines. I just randomly picked 2008. I first verified that the engine blocks had the same part numbers, though. I guess my only point (which I didn't clarify well enough) is to double check important parts from one HP rating to the other...

So... just out of curiosity, I went to SIM's site and compared, as an example, a 2008 F225 to a F250. I only QUICKLY looked at parts comparisons, but the first section I went to, Intake 1, was not the same from one motor to another. Again, I only did this quickly and only looked briefly at...

Pee hole water very hot Yamaha 250

100% agree - and it would definitely help to clarify things for the rest of us. However, I believe she has some prior experience to compare against. BUT... you're saying that 150* is OK for this? Meaning, doesn't that seem way too hot for something that doesn't go through the engine? Unless...

Pee hole water very hot Yamaha 250

Don't sell yourself short - you are NOT "just a girl" :) If a guy can do it I'm sure a gal can! It does sound like it's too hot. But it may not mean that the ENGINE is too hot. The pee hole is a slightly different circuit and it's possible that the circuit is slightly clogged which could, in...

With enfish's picture (thanks) and Mark's description of it failing where the cables attach... it looks like it might be accessible enough to weld a new tab on?

I think you're right - any hose made today is certainly better than older ones. As long as it's not too much trouble to replace it? Edit (hit reply too soon): I don't know that I would trust Defender's info - they're just simple re-seller. I do think you're good to go - but if you WERE...

It may appear that way, but, no. That is only because the rubber is first weakened by hot temps. Hoses in a boat that is sitting for the winter stay at a relatively constant temperature... or at least are subject to a very slow expansion and contraction rate due only to temperature swings. In...
