    Transom Failure Incidents

Mustang65fbk - you got the wrong boat. That video is of the Port St. Lucy boat that clearly had a transom failure. SkunkBoat is referring to the NJ boat that went down in front of the party boat. This is the one you were convinced they left the drain plug out. Why it sank was never explained and...

1996 Grady Islander Stringer rot repair

I re-read the thread. Very nice work! I'll answer my own questions. Please correct them if wrong. How did you know the transom was good? Was it "wet"? How did you bond stringers to it? Stringer connection to transom was fine and transom was not touched. Did you have any cracking under the rub...

1996 Grady Islander Stringer rot repair

Starting to size up a transom and stringer job for my 1997 Islander. Still monitoring. How did you know the transom was good? Was it "wet"? How did you bond stringers to it? Did you have any cracking under the rub rail, on the transom or in the motor well? It was just the stringers? This was...

    300 Marlin Transom

The crack under the rub rail is particularly concerning. Did you check the other side? I can't quite tell where the other crack is. I would put the closing on hold. Cracks are the first sign of a transom problem. The motors may not fall off right away but something is going on. You should have...

Location of live well pump? 2021, GW 235 dual console

Those pumps are very good but they don't last. I burn thru a few a year. Warranty with Rule/Xylem is great (3-years) but West Marine has cheap extended warranty that I use too. For $10 I can swap the pump anytime.

    scuffed gelcoat

Sometimes the scuff marks from the rubber on the dock will transfer material into the gelcoat. Try some solvents first on a cloth rag and try to scrub out first. Then go back with polish or compound. If scratched you may need to wet sand. Get a spray bottle. Fill with water and a few squirts of...

Location of live well pump? 2021, GW 235 dual console

Start by downloading the GW owners manual from the GW site. Loaded with useful information. Livewell - Raw Water To operate the livewell, open the seacock in the aft bilge using the remote seacock arm labeled livewell. The livewell pump is screwed directly into this seacock. Plug the drain in...

    Hot Water Heater 265 Express

Pump out water. Drain and Bypass water heater Add a gallon of pink antifreeze and pump thru. Then I blow out the system with low pressure (air compressor turned way down). You don’t have to use the antifreeze but you don’t get all the water out with just air.

    Sailfish Seat Upgrade From Pompanette

A friend of mine uses the vinyl spray paint on his seats. Doesn’t last and looks “repaired”. Re-Upholstering is best if the look is important.

It will go on existing pedestal. I moved the pedestal more to starboard side to use extra space since seat doesn’t need to turn around and to clear the walkway.

    Transom Failure Incidents

I've been watching mine. I met with a local fiberglass shop in the area who does a few GW transoms each year. They stated they don't want to do a transom before it's time. They are too difficult to take apart. Look for cracks in the well or the transom. Transom flex when standing on the motor...
