    2000 gulfstream windless

Both companies/products are good and have been around for a long time. I think there's more Lewmar's in the aftermarket and that's why you might see more reviews of them... and we all know that most people only post negative reviews. However, you should really look into Good Windlasses...

Yahmaha Command link fuel gauge / sender wiring quesiton

Oh, do this first... another thing to check - short the black to pink at the gauge. That should show full - when you disconnect, that should show E. It's buffered so it doesn't respond immediately. That will tell you immediately if the issue is at the gauge or somewhere upstream. If at the...

Yahmaha Command link fuel gauge / sender wiring quesiton

The plug-in part has to be correct - they can only go in one way. Do the colors match your pictures? In the end, it's really just the pink wires and grounds that you're looking for so you don't really need a wiring diagram. There's probably at least a wire color guide in your owner's manual...

Yahmaha Command link fuel gauge / sender wiring quesiton

Since you're not positive if all the connections are correct, start with that. Ensure both pink wires are connected. Verify both of the connector's grounds are good (ohm from there to a known good ground). You can also run a wire from the gauge connector directly to the tank which will bypass...

    Replacement canvas for bimini top

Something isn't jiving here, Paul. Simply replacing the bimini top material is not going to be $4K. I think there's a miscommunication somewhere on that. I'm not sure who originally made it - but try A&J Canvas or Great Lakes. Locally should be a good way to go, though. I'm not sure what...

    SeaStar question

That housing is so solid that I can't imagine you're going to harm it in any way with a couple band clamps. Are you making a 2-piece sliding contraption so everything still works when one engine is tilted? I've never used it, but I think Attwood makes a setup for about $25. I've heard good...

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

I work in the marine industry - I KNOW boat sales are still crazy! Even halfway decent boats are in high demand - at least in my area. I suspect there may be another variable with the Marlins - if you go back in time "X" number of years, things like a genny were not viewed as being "needed"...

    1990 Grady 228g feels slow

Can we start with what "feels slower" means? You need to quantify this for us as "feelings" don't work very well for diagnosis. Maybe it's not really slower and it's "just you", you know? What was/is your top end speed (same load/conditions) and WOT RPM? What does "rev it out" mean? What...

Engine Flush Port Quick Connect Fittings CPC

If the male piece is valved then you have to use a female valve piece. Otherwise, how would the valve "open"? Peeing doesn't matter. Just turn the hose on but do not start the engine.

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

FYI, this is par for the course - meaning, there are much less than normal boats, in general, for sale right now - and those that do become available go quickly if they're at least half way decent. It's not a "normal" time to compare available inventory. Or... maybe the ones with the genset...

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

Sure, not completely apples to apples. I just figured it was good "info" to add to your thought process... and interesting reading, given what you are doing.

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

Here's some interesting reading for you. This is from another boating forum that I belong to. http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/replace-genset-with-lithium-batteries-and-a-inverter.104774/

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

I suppose "small" is subjective. But a Magma is about $200 and a french press is about $20. So certainly it's "some" fraction of the inverter. BUT... my point is not to convince you one way or the other - just to present information so you can make a better decision. Regarding the genny...

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

Ralph, I mentioned this above and only want to quickly mention it again in case it got missed. While the microwave wouldn't work with the following, you can re-heat things on a simple gas grill (like the Magma) and of course cook on it. You can aslo heat hot water on it and use a french press...

Water depth required to float a Freedom 235

You should be fine at that tide. If your boat floats in 20", which is from the keel to the waterline, then where the bunks touch the hull will be less than that. It all depends on where you have the bunks set, but you can probably see where I'm going with the math.

Water depth required to float a Freedom 235

How far below the top of the water can you currently lower the bunks?

Marlin Wiper arms- replace whole arm(has to be a trick)

Well, you could always just paint it right there without removing it :) A light sand, a tiny can of Rustoleum and a small brush will do the trick. There's often a little latch/arm on the underside of the "cup" that sits on the shaft. If you look/feel underneath, you might see it. Just gently...

Should I drop insurance in the winter?

I mean this only in a fun/jesting way... you do know that you're allowed to proofread before you click "post", right? :) And... wow, that storm did a number on your rig - all it left was the front two feet of your trailer!

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

No worries - electrical stuff can be a daunting task. But, yes, you are correct. Just check the specs on the mic and the inverter - the inverter manual should give you the wiring/breaker (or fuse) specs. It's going to be a pretty good sized inverter, though.

300 Marlin - Gen or not to Gen?

Yes, you mentioned "permanent", though, which is whole different category.. Look at all of the restrictions and safety factors that would need to be overcome - and many can not be overcome at all. There's a reason built-in genny's are so expensive... well, that AND they have the word "marine"...
