I am not so sure I would run that motor without the LU attached depending on how you cooled it.

You mentioned that you tested with the lu off the noise is gone. Did you run the motor without the lu attached? The bushing you mentioned is not all that easy to replace either and also when it is bad, the motor tends to squeal not knock.
