    Islander 270 Windlass Upgrade

I have similar setup only Islander. The ProFish is mounted on my anchor rope locker. It works ok but be careful that you don't rip it out. Did that once and had to rebuild. Problem isn't where it's mounted. I had lots of problems with getting the windlass to swallow the 8-plait rope to chain...

    Charging a battery

I hate Srius XM. Almost free and overpriced. Good answer. I'll never understand why it's so difficult to charge a battery. Two pages of solutions to a simple problem and stupid mistake.

    Charging a battery

Are you on shore power? Do you have a charger? If not the ProMariner ProSportHD 20 is a good choice. The engine is capable of charging the battery it is connected to. But it takes hours if you really killed it. One running set 1 to #1 and 2 to #2.

    Remove Windshield from CC...???

This really is a simple job. You need to find someone who has experience sewing Makrolon. This is a rectangular piece that can be curved, a borders, keder awning and zippers. Track top and bottom. The problem is it is a small job. Where do you do your boating?

    Remove Windshield from CC...???

Your boat would be a little different. Mine snaps down to the windshield as did my old enclosure. I have a zipper attached to the keder awning rail in the original track with a zipper. I didn't need the zipper because of the snaps. In your case you should have keder awning rail top and bottom...

    Has anyone installed a 12" Garmin - GPSMAP 1242xsv in a 228?

The pictures above on post #5 are of the 8612xsv. The 8610 is in overhead box and mounted on a bracket - not flush mounted.

    Remove Windshield from CC...???

Makrolon polycarbonate 40mil was $100 for a 4x8 sheet. I haven’t brought it lately. If the shop can’t wrap the corners then make a separate piece and zipper vertically. The front piece should be track top and bottom -slide in on bottom and zipper across top. Use Stamoid for borders.

    Remove Windshield from CC...???

Not sure on price. I do my own work so I can’t give you a price. The material can be curved. Bending is complex involving heat and a jig. Not something a local fabricator would tackle.

    Has anyone installed a 12" Garmin - GPSMAP 1242xsv in a 228?

    The 8610xsv is a much better unit. It has the higest resolution of all the 86xx series and significantly better than 1242/1243 display. Last year I swapped my 943xsv for a 8610xsv. 8610xsv $2,699.99. physical 10.25" x 8.0625" x 2.95" (25.9 cm x 20.5 cm x 7.5 cm). 6 15/16" cutout height screen...

    Remove Windshield from CC...???

Get a new polycarbonate windshield made. They only last a few years. The UV takes its toll. On my 268 Islander I have a one-piece full width polycarbonate panel. I have side panels that we can put up if needed but usually run without. Took the wipers off the glass windshield this year. Didn't...

Probably was balsa. Although there was a significant amount of glue that leaked out. The black mold and sticky film was on my tanks too. When I pulled the hatch and stood it up it leaked coffee colored ooze out!

    ENGINE FLUSHING

I frequently have no-flow out of tell tale port in my driveway. My mechanic said this is common with ear muff's. He suggested a "Y" hose connected to muff's and the engine flush hose. Works fine in the water. I keep a 2' piece of 300lb mono handy when I Spring launch. Sometimes the fuel cooler...

    Core Replacement Guide?

Fiberglast.com is a good source for materials. MESCO marine supply is good for Coosa board but you have to deal thru a marina - no retail. Marine plywood is fine to use. It uses a water resistant glue vs regular plywood. Use a slow hardener for the epoxy. West System 105 resin and 206 slow...
