251 Coastal Explorer - Ski Arch

Get the TS - they do exactly as the advertising says. If it's in the way for when you go fishing, you can take it off in seconds.

    Soft floor

It was actually a fun project. I did it over the winter -- see the heater in the first pic? I built a high frame for the shrink wrapping (basically, the whole back end of the boat was big box with plenty of headroom. I even installed shop lighting under the roof of the frame - that first...

    solar juice

Just a side note on the small one I mentioned - for keeping the battery "topped off" from bilge pump draw that's all you really need. Remember, the bilge pump comes on very ocassionally but the charger works all the time (well, not "all" the time, but you know what I mean). If I remember...

    Calk at outboard bracket/hull interface

Yup, the bracket and the platform are two separate entities. Pretty tough to get a perfect match. These boats weren't built using a micrometer :)

    248 Voyager fresh water fill

There's always a vent. Always. Is it like what I described above?

    Soft floor

To better explain my situation... My boat was originally a stern drive model and only had/has the forward 90-some gallon tank. If you look at the picture, you can see the "wider" cutout/hole where the sterndrive and the "dogbox" would have been. The perimeter of the that cutout had an exposed...

    Soft floor

That's kind of an odd place to have a soft spot. There are no direct core "compromises" nearby. Just having water setting on top of the deck shouldn't cause an issue. Possibly the fiberglass skin underneath the wood core wasn't sealed well (or just separated over 35 years... which is...

dealer prep time on new boat?

It's a fair question to ask why the change from 1-1/2 weeks to 3 weeks - was something else added? Was the 1-1/2 week quote earlier and this 3 week is more "up to date"? 3 weeks is about right for a busy dealership, right now. FYI, warranty won't start till the dealer submits the paperwork to...

    Calk at outboard bracket/hull interface

This. Or, at least, this SHOULD BE just a cosmetic thing. The caulking you are planning on doing does NOT keep water out of the bracket or hull. Any halfway decent caulk is fine here. Personally, I like the Boatlife stuff - but that's not to take anything away from other brands. EDIT: It...

    Seacock stuck

I think I mentioned it above, but be sure to check the handle for a square hole at the end for a socket. If the handle is fully encased, the hole still might be there underneath. I don't see how it can hurt. I'm not sure how effective it would be, either, since the valve is the open position...

    What do you call the...

Nah, that was an easy one. But it's only easy because I knew the answer - if I didn't know the answer, then it would be harder ;) Glad it helped!

Go to TH Marine (I'm sure others make it, too). Look for "grommet". Could be a pass through grommet, rod grommet, etc.

I want to put my boat's name on the transom....

I would just measure the area that you want to use and stop by a local sign shop. Most decent sized towns have them. They don't charge a whole lot, either - but it makes it so much easier as they so all the figuring out for you and send you renderings/options.

    Advice/Help re: Cracked transom scupper

That's really strange - especially since bronze is a more durable metal than SS. I would be suspicious of the other one, as well. But, yes, it's as straight forward as you're thinking. The hose is showing cracking, but that hose can have some cracks and still be sufficient. HOWEVER, it's...

    248 Voyager fresh water fill

Vents are located close the fill. However, you may have a fill where the vent is built into the fill. Do you have a cap that has two holes in it, but can also be removed by using your palm or by gripping the outside, knurled edge of the cap? That's a built-in style. It could also be that the...

    solar juice

Bird, that's definitely something you move up on your priority list. If the panel is bad, there's a possibility that it could be DRAINING your batteries.

    Leak in corner of windshield

By "all the way down"... do you just mean that the water is traveling downhill? Or is there something else you mean? Is this the upper, middle or top corner? Is it coming through the corner where the two pieces meet (top, middle/bottom) or is it coming in under the frame?

    Leak in corner of windshield

Yes, find the source and fix it. Without detailed information, or a crystal ball, that's about the only answer that fits.
