    Marlin 300 - Trim Tab/Plane Replacement

Not that it isn't true, but I have personally never heard of that pin being the purposefully designed "weak link" so I can't comment on that. Chances are it's just a fluke thing. It could be a soft transom, but hopefully not. Could also be that if you reused the same holes (which is fine)...

Trailering - motors up or down?

I've never seen (in person) or used a steering lock, but... wouldn't a piece of PVC pipe with a slot ripped out of it work? Cut the slot just shy of the steering ram diamater and it will "snap" over the ram to stay put. A couple velcro straps (or tape) would make it even more secure. Maybe...

    Marlin 300 - Trim Tab/Plane Replacement

Generally speaking, Bennett tabs are one of the most reliable things on a boat. The "problem" with that, is that most people don't give them a second thought till there's a problem - and it's reasonable to expect the screws to be checked/tightened/re-sealed every so often as preventative...

232 TANK REPLACEMENT: deck flange trimming & cross bracing

Nighttides - another option for the tank removal/install process. Rather than cutting any part of the boat, cut the tank. You'll need to get rid of all the gas... siphon it all, then siphon again, then let it opened up for a week. Then fill the tank with water till over flows for about 10...

    Binoculars

I don't recall the model number, but I have a pair of Nikon's, probably 10x50, that I bought about 15 years ago. I agree that you don't want to go too large in the mag, but I really haven't had any issues with them holding them still enough. They were close to $300 back then (although by no...

    97 Grady 232 Gulfstream Repower

Can you clarify what you mean by "sits" too low? The prop when tilted? The anti-ventilation plate being too low, below the keel? You might just have it mounted too low - there are multiple heights that it can be mounted at to adjust the anti-vent plate compared to the keel - about 1" higher...

    222 model no livewell??

I know lot's of fisherman (and women) that do quite a lot of fishing but don't use a livewell. I've seen some Offshore models on lakes and I'd bet most Marlin owners have never caught a marlin. I suppose they could have made it a standard feature, but then the boat would have been more...

Need help, hoping for help on wiring issue

Another way to look at this... is everything working properly? If so, don't go looking for problems! :)

Need help, hoping for help on wiring issue

If the circuit is on/drawing power (a bilge pump float switch, for example, would always be on), it's not uncommon to get a little spark.

Oh, OK. Same answer, though :)

Quick question on 265 recessed trim tabs

I have never seen a tab hinge that is through bolted through a transom. But you can either look down in there (use a mirror or your phone if need be), or just start removing the screws - if they only spin, they're bolted. But again, I can't imagine they are - there's no need for it. You might...

    Removing Leaning Post -263 Chase

Try this - have someone push firmly on it, like they're trying to lean it over, while you tap a large putty knife underneath it. You could try this by yourself, too. Also... could heat up the knife nice and hot, first.

    Leak inside Cabin

You probably know your boat better than me, but... anything on that starboard side that is above and forward of the leak point. Speaking of that, unless it's obvious on the outside, start by removing that panel - where the leak enters the boat may be different than where it presents. Rubrail...

    Removing Leaning Post -263 Chase

Rocking it back and forth doesn't start to loosen it up? You should have a lot of leverage to help. I've never removed one, but I find it very hard to believe that there is any type of mechanical fastener used from underneath that wouldn't be accessible - that wouldn't make sense.

Your welcome. TH is a nice company - they sometimes come out with some new and innovative stuff. They're actually a manufacturer - not just a simple online retailer that knows nothing about their products.

    POWERWINCH RC30 - Repair

I think there's a good chance that if you take it apart, you might find something obvious... burnt wires, worn contacts, etc. As Bill mentioned, they're not overly complicated.

    Islander 26 Bait Tank

So the drain is on the actual bottom? A sump box could work if you have to go below deck, but since you might get gunk/scales/whatever in the water, you'd probably want to use a macerator instead of a typical bilge pump.

    Islander 26 Bait Tank

Sue, are you saying the drain is through the bottom, or through the side near the bottom? If it's actually through the bottom, what about building a small shelf for it to sit on? Or, as I mentioned above, put a new drain through the side (plug the old one)? Or... exchange it for one that...
