Grady getting slapped around on THT

I think you might going a bit (a lot?) overboard on that. The bow eye issue is a VERY small blemish - it is almost certainly just a simple air void. It happens. It happens more than most think. It is also VERY easily repairable at the dealer level - in fact, things like this are EXPECTED to...

    Sealing Snap Fasteners

Manufacturer's, when building boats, typically do NOT seal the snaps (threads) with anything. For the most part, there's really no way for water to get in since the threads bite into the glass and seal tight. HOWEVER, anytime I replace/add snaps I always add some sealant as an extra...

    outboard bracket leak

Be gentle on the sanding... aluminum is soft metal. Good luck!

    Sailfish Transom/Fiberglass Question

Run from it? No. But get a hull survey done by a reputable surveyor. DON'T shop for a surveyor by price, alone. Any Joe Schmoe can become a surveyor - ask around for references. And even a potential surveyor for some sample/previous surveys to look at. It could be an easy fix with no...

    outboard bracket leak

If you have a hole, that's most likely going to be from pitting/corrosion. It'd be odd for this to be the only bad spot - there are probably other spots that getting ready to go. I suggest a good sanding of the area, address the bad spot (epoxy/weld/whatever) and then properly prime/paint the...

Grady getting slapped around on THT

I'm by no means standing up for Grady here, but I can tell you from 30+ years of being in this business that this is not all that uncommon - especially a small goober like that. Most people just never know it happens! And, this happens with ALL the manufacturers - Grady is not alone here...

Grady getting slapped around on THT

I don't know if Grady is completely responsible for this - and I'm not saying this to really defend them, just offering some insight on how/why these things happen... Mistakes happen with all manufacturers during the layup process from time to time - there's no denying that. Many brands at...

    Two things.

All good info about the pump - nothing really to add - other than... don't overthink this. It's a stupidly simple setup :) And... even a slow-rate charger can destroy a battery. And batteries can, and do, explode - spewing acid and plastic everywhere. I've personally seen it - made a big...

    Old bottom paint removal

That's a lot more expensive than it is around here - last time I checked, anyways. But you shouldn't need the epoxy sealer - not sure why they were telling you that, other than to CYA. With that in mind, though, maybe you'd be happy with just a really strong pressure washing since that can do...

Grady getting slapped around on THT

I'll one up you and pay them a full dollar and half! :) :) The bow eye... it looks like an air void formed in the process of laying the fiberglass onto the gelcoat. That air void collapsed when the bow eye was tightened down, leading to the bow eye leaning over slightly. I don't see any way...

    Screen for Cabin Front Hatch

OK, so then there's no interior "lip" to slip/click a screen frame into? Is there enough room to do what I linked to above? Otherwise... how 'bout velcro or snaps?

    Screen for Cabin Front Hatch

Is this a glass/plexi type hatch or fiberglass? Assuming glass/plexi... Obviously, going through your dealer would be easy - and might not be all that expensive. But, there should be some markings on it to show who the manufacturer is. Once you know that (also measure the size... although a...

    Steering wheel center cap

I do not. But I bet a local engraving company (trophies and such) could at least buff that out to smooth. Maybe they could do the Grady logo if you provided the logo... might be patent issues... might depend on the engraving company, too. Or... maybe your boat name or some other logo you...

    Best boat you never owned?

The best boat I've never owned is my next one! :) But... on my list of "would love to haves"... Back Cove. Love those downeast picnic boats - made not too far from me in our place up there in ME, too. Would love a Hinckley... but that's REALLY dreamin'!

    Need a new teak door

Highly, highly doubt it. It would have to be something they have sitting on a back shelf somewhere. Besides, they've gone to using HDPE (plastic/starboard) doors. And that would be something to consider - having it made out of HDPE. I think I recall seeing teak, louvered door "kits" that you...

    Need a new teak door

You might get lucky (using the word "might" very generously there) get lucky and find a salvaged boat (google for marine slavage yards) or possibly someone selling parts on ebay. Are you sure it's actually rotten? It's very rare for teak to rot. However, it can get grey and crackly looking...

Had tank deck redone, big thanks to Crow's Nest Marina

Agree. Leads, look at how Grady ran the plywood squares right to the edge of the panel. That also doesn't give a whole lot of area for the bottom skin to adhere to the panel edge - just a little bit of flexing will open that joint and let water in... and based on how that guy is peeling back...

1997 175 Merc Offshore Trim Motor Replacement

Have you physically tried to get at the rear bolt? Sometimes you can be pretty ingenious with extensions and whatnot. Your idea (tilt cylinder, not trim, fyi) would be easy enough to try. Wouldn't be too hard to lift the engine and push it back from the transom enough to access the bolt...

    Eisinglass enclosure restoration

It's hard to really tell until it's stretched out, but I agree they don't look all that bad. Any of the restorers and polishes out there should work. They're just clear vinyl. Yes, it's best not to roll them. Store them flat with a cheap bedsheet between each piece. If you do roll them...
