    Silicone recommendation

A lot of people use GE silicone II in an almond color.

    300 hour service question

Don’t know for sure! I’d look at the ingredients to make sure it’s not petroleum based.

    300 hour service question

I always use a silicone paste which is fine for metals rubbers leather and all synthetic materials. It is relatively cheap if bought by the jar. May be difficult to find out exactly what type of material the O-rings are made of but paste works well on all rubber parts. I use it liberally on the...

    New Grady 335 Freedom

I upgraded my 330 with dual Garmin 1243XSV MFDs. In addition I changed my radar to one of the Fantom solid-state radars. I previously had one of the older magnetron 18 Garmin radar and it was not nearly as sensitive and had less functions. The functions are amazing and easy to use. As an old...

    3 batteries to 2

I’ve noticed the improvement in types. not being a early adopter of technology, I’m a little afraid to set my boat up that way yet. Another couple years I think it might be a great idea! The prices continue to come down as well. I’d be very interested in what you decide and how it all comes out!

    3 batteries to 2

Make sure you do your research, most of the LIFePO4 batteries are not able to be used as starting batteries. There are a few that are capable of starting but they are quite expensive. Installing the appropriate charger downstream from your alternators is also a bit pricey and the finished...

    2007 306 Bimini - aft Bilge replacement

That appears to be wired directly to the battery circuit wise., but I understand now why you said via the battery switch. Can’t tell for sure. In other words it is hot all the time and position of the battery switch does not turn the bilge pump off. They just use the terminal on the switch that...

    2007 306 Bimini - aft Bilge replacement

Minor correction, most manufacturers, including GW wire the bilge pump/float directly to the battery (buss) and not through the battery switch. You want the auto function to work, regardless of battery switch position.

Need some advice about malfunctioning GT56UHD transducer

We need more information as to what is actually driving your transducers. Do you have a separate black box to drive your through hull transducer? What type MFD is driving your GT 56? Many MFD‘s such as the 1243XSV, will not drive two transducers simultaneously. If your MFD has only one...

    Windlass and Islander questions.

I am extremely happy with the performance and reliability of my Lewmar pro fish 1000. It is very important to have the proper size gypsy, chain, and rode. I prefer 8 plait rode as it lays much better in the anchor locker.

    GT56UHD transducer pitch?

Go to the sternmate .com website for a lot of good mounting advice. Ideally I believe the transducer should be parallel with the sea bottom depending on the angle of the boat but placing a straight edge along the bottom of the hull with a transducer 3/8” below that straight edge should be close...

To repower or not...2004 282 with dual Yamaha F225"s

I’d sell your F225s while they are running well, take videos, offer test runs and get YDIS readouts. They are valuable to the right buyer. Keep your controls if price sensitive and repower with new F250s. I sold 1200 hour F250s running great and repowered with F300. Market is not what it was...

How do I reset service interval on my Garmin 742xs? 2020 Freedman 192, Yamaha 150

Try going to your warning manager and reset the warning message. You can find it in your Garmin owners manual. You will get all your engine warnings through that system as well.

    Boat seesawing on mooring

I think it’s the nature of the beast! Haven’t found a solution either. Vintage fishing boats used a spanker sail aft to prevent that.

    Fresh Water System Leak

I forgot about the accumulator. The newer pumps do not require an accumulator. Even with an accumulator the main water tank is not pressurized and accumulator is on the pressure side of the system.

    Fresh Water System Leak

The tank is never pressurized. The tank provides gravity flow only to the inlet of the water pump. There is typically a screen type filter between the tank and the water pump to accumulate debris if any. Another thing is if you were able to hold back the pressure with your thumb or finger then...

    Fresh Water System Leak

Theoretically, you could lose water via the unpressurized side upstream from the pump if the pump allowed water to gravity flow through the pump to the pressure outside. To check which side leaks fill your tank make sure your pump is energized and wait a few hours and see if it cycles. You...

    New Garmin set up

The Sat radio and fusion amp connect via a NMEA2000 network. The radar connects directly to the 1243. Of course the transducer connects directly as well. Your Nema 2000 net work requires a separate power source to power that network and plugs into the Nema 2000 outlet on the 1243. All of the...
