The Bahamas might never be the same after Dorian!

    Scary stuff!

    Re-wiring a boat?

I own a 1987 226 that has spent its whole life in saltwater, most of the wiring in the bilge such as the bilge pump wiring and such I replaced simply because the wires were corroded from the end to pretty far up stream. The main thing I paid close attention to is the ground and connection buss...

    Fuel tank replacement round 2!

That bilge setup is quite different than the earlier bilge on my 87, yours rests completely along the bottom where they had two thin strips of material placed from what I can tell. Mine has raised bearing points that keeps the tank about an inch or so off the bottom, they had rubber pads between...

pulling gas out of my grady marlin

I use a hose with a spare primer bulb attached, once you get it flowing the siphon takes over. I will never use my mouth again like I did when younger and dumber.

    Weekend plan anyone?

It's not looking like a fun holiday weekend for Florida, will be watching and preparing for a storm. Praying that it spares us and turns North before coming ashore. I have been through more of these than anyone deserves, Dorian GO AWAY! :(

Picked up a used Boat cover

Feeling pretty lucky to only have around 300.00 invested total, should help keeping the ole girl looking good.

Picked up a used Boat cover

Yeah, I have a gallon of the treatment and plan on doing just that.

Picked up a used Boat cover

My canvas guy made a couple nips and tucks on the cover and it fits really nice. Now maybe the boat will need less cleaning maintenance when it's not being used.

Will your Grady float if capsized or swamped?

I honestly doubt my 226 would stay floating at the top having two 375lb outboards on the back, but I'm no expert.

Will your Grady float if capsized or swamped?

This tragedy certainly has most of us offshore boaters really thinking about safety. Many scenarios keep going through our heads trying to figure out the problems that could possibly stack up to end up with a boat like that being lost. I have not heard any reference to the weather that Friday...

What causes gelcoat to do this?

Looks like gel coat underneath, probably awlgrip paint peeling.

My new 1986 Grady 226 seafarer (wow what did I get myself into)

Glad to see another older Seafarer brought back to its glory, I really like mine as a very versatile platform. I'm looking forward to a repower down the road since these old Johnson 140 loopers are very thirsty. I love the performance and they have been problem free, but you can easily burn 50+...

Picked up a used Boat cover

I haven't trial fitted it yet, should cover fine since the Gulfstream is a tag longer, and wider. Severe storms were passing through today and prevented me from doing anything. The one thing I found out, rolling this up in the driveway creates a large build up of static electricity, I got zapped...

Picked up a used Boat cover

I have been wanting a good quality full cover for my 87 226, but just have not had the funds to get a new one. I spotted this cover from a Grady 23 Gulfstream on Facebook classified, it had a couple small rips in it but overall is in nice condition. Asking price was 350.00, I haggled it down to...

    New fuel tanks!!!

I put two coats of self etching epoxy primer on the tank (after sanding the tank to give rough texture), then adhered 3" X 6" X 3/16" thick fiberglass bearing pads to the tank with 5200 exactly where the tank bears on the raised bearing points in the bilge. In between the new bearing pads on the...

    Main fuel tank problem

I have seen tree frogs and bees nest in the tank vents and cause fuel starvation problems. Try running the gas caps loose a bit and see if that makes a difference, if so then it is most certainly a vent blockage.

    Boatless ...

Hope your future allows you to enjoy boating again.

Rolled the dice and I lost it seems.

I believe that even a coated tank will have wear at the contact points on the bottom from the pounding these boats take. Once the coating wears away at all, and salt water gets trapped in between these areas, you get run away corrosion. Every contact point on my old tank had deep pitting, and...

My Grady 226 has dry wood termites

I ended up purchasing the foaming spray and going over the obvious areas that had been infested, mostly the cabin storage covers, and shelf unit that are made of laminated plywood. But just to go the extra mile, I purchased two boxes of the Raid fumigator cartridges that you activate with water...
