My Grady 226 has dry wood termites

I had the boat inspected by two exterminator companies, both said the wings found are from dry wood termites, no sign of subterranean and the boat has always been on its trailer. The person I purchased the boat from lived in a heavily wooded area, and the exterminator says these swarm every two...

My Grady 226 has dry wood termites

Found some wings in the cabin of my 226 and had them looked at by an exterminator, turns out I have dry wood termites eating my cabin storage covers, teak shelf unit, and who knows what else. Tenting the boat quotes are 1300.00 and 1122.00, which I believe is ridiculous! Hoping someone can come...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

The bow eye cleat and anchor cleat bracket in the bow was probably one of the hardest things on my restoration, my big hands and forearms don't fit well in that tight space. The original bracket was a pile of crumbled rust in the forward storage compartment, nothing left of it at all. I feel...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Boy does this thread bring back memories! Congrats on getting a very difficult project done, I too replaced my entire fuel system in my 87. https://www.greatgrady.com/threads/bought-a-1987-226-seafarer.25345/

    Batteries problems

Check the voltages with a multi meter, could be the starter giving up.

    Bought a 1987 226 Seafarer!

Yes, I replaced the fuel fill and vent lines. I attached the new one to the end of the old with duct tape and pulled it through. The old hoses are very stiff and make it difficult, but there is an access hole that helps by allowing you to feed it through by putting your hand down there and pushing.

    Price for a 1985 Seafarer 226

I'm thinking 700.00 to 1200.00 depending on how much work the trailer needs. With no trailer than the 500.00 to 800.00 figure is fair. Just my opinion.

Parts for 1984 Seafarer - Wanted

I have a 1987 226, seldom use any of the cushions unless we are just going cruising in the river and need them for extra seating. My cabin (bedding) cushions are stored in my attic, they would only be needed if we wanted to sleep on the boat which we have not done yet. I have square flotation...

No, these are original, and someone painted the water line stripe at some point in the past.

    Fuel tank project is complete

Nice job, shouldn't have to worry about tanks again for many many years. Putting my 226 in the water tomorrow for the first time this year, hope the fish are biting.

    Fuel lines

Although my boat is quite a bit smaller (226 Seafarer), I spent around 300.00 to replace my fuel lines and filters myself. It originally had just a single filter supplying both outboards, so I installed one for each and premium fuel lines. I also replaced my tank after finding corrosion at every...

    Do you use Ethanol free?

The ethanol really only becomes an issue with older, non fuel injected outboards. The ethanol evaporates quicker than just plain gasoline, it then leaves a corrosive film that degrades regular rubber fuel lines, and also corrodes aluminum and other metal parts. I build automotive engines for a...

    1986 22 seafair

Follow the advice given above, with a lot of work and cleaning, the old girl can be brought back to its glory. I just finished my 87 Seafarer, you can read through the thread and get an idea of what will be needed. I was lucky that I was able to save the original outboards for now which kept the...

    A decade on my 228

Glad your Grady has treated you so well! My 226 is a bit over 3 decades old, and a testament to how well these were built since its whole life has been spent in South Florida. I can only imagine all the fish stories this boat could tell, if it were possible. This boat outlasted the two previous...
