    Twin Yamaha 150’s woes

Need more information on your motors. Year, etc. But you may want to do a rigging/sync check and throttle position sensor adjustment. Newer motors are controlled by the throttle position sensor if it’s fuel injected. Throttle cables simply open the butterfly and the TPS controls fuel flow.

    Live well pick up

Livewell and washdown pick ups are typically not on the transom. They would be out of the water at speed. I’d look somewhere for a closed seacock or another through hull somewhere else on the boat.

    Oil at foot

If that is an F225 model (4 stroke) and the year and, if the exhaust kit has not been installed previously, you should suspect exhaust corrosion that may have compromised the oil pan. My guess, worst case, is that is engine oil. You may be able to tell by the viscosity and smell. Lower unit...

What engine? Two or four stroke, big difference in possibilities

    Yamaha Command Link Plus

Don’t have the command link plus gauges but seem to remember they are configurable. I can configure my Garmin MFDs to read various parameters but the F250s do not come standard with a water pressure sensor. It is about $125 add on option that you can put into the command link system. My guess is...

Shore power electrical panel Reverse Polarity

On my 330 if there is reverse polarity the panel will not allow AC power to be distributed through the panel. I docked at a dock with reverse polarity on the shore side and couldn’t get any AC on the boat. Confirmed with a tester, fixed shore side, all was well.

    Bang plate round 2

If you opt for stainless steel do not even think about putting it on top of the aluminum. I opted for the vinyl and was very happy. Stainless over aluminum would make a real mess considering bimetallic corrosion. Using stainless under aluminum engine mounts is also questionable.

Fixing my 228, autopilot and power steering question

One of the two Seastar ram seals on my boat (dual engines) started seeping when it got cold (static leak) after 10 years. I changed both in a day for under $100 including the special tool to get the caps off. I noticed it by seeing drops of oil in the transom well. Never impacted steering and...

Need input on Graphs and Transducers Sorry very long.

The best Garmin transom mount with side view is (IMHO) the GT-56. It has traditional Chirp and sidescan. Unfortunately, the 4208 will not drive that transducer. I have dual 1243xsv with an old thru hull 1KW AIRMAR and a GT-56TM . Each MFD drives one transducer without a sonar box. The higher...

Need input on Graphs and Transducers Sorry very long.

Transducers will not operate on the NMEA2000 network. They are connected directly to either a stand alone sonar box such as Garmin's GSD series or directly to a self contained sonar transmitted in the MFD itself such as the Garmin GPSMAP series of MFDs. The NMEA 2000 network only shares the...

Boat camping (sleeping on board) with a CPAP machine

You will need to determine how many watts your CPAP machine draws. I don’t expect that it would be a lot but I have no idea. It should be available on the machine or online. Then an inverter that is capable probably slightly oversized would work but could end up drawing a lot from your...

    Loran conversion to GPS

LORAN C is a two dimensional hyperbolic radio based time difference system. It is highly repeatable as mentioned but not necessarily related accurately to Latitude and longitude. The numbers you see are time differences. For each area there is a master station and several slave stations. The...

    Wiring radar to fuse panel

Fortunately, for the new Fantom radar, Garmin has provided a splice at one end of their ethernet network cable that leaves a relatively small connector to fish through the pipes. I may have missed it, but I don’t see what model boat we are talking about. If a 330 I can provide some advice based...

    Wiring radar to fuse panel

Yes, well aware of that danger and the fact that it was “buzzing” had me concerned enough to go back and make certain it was in standby, which it was. Great system so far. Dual 1243xsv Fantom and GT-56 ducer

    Wiring radar to fuse panel

The noise it makes does not sound like spinning and when you go to transmit I seem to remember the MFD says “spinning up.” I only noticed it when I went up on the bow adrift and could hear it as I passed by the hardtop. I don’t remember my older GMR 18 making noise when in standby. I do...

    Wiring radar to fuse panel

Here is another point to consider. I have had several Garmin systems. When the radar is not powered and you power up the MFD’s and sonar, the MFD’s do not see radar therefore it is not a choice on your menu. I don’t know if powering the radar on will make the MFD recognize the radar if they have...

Current Charts of 'Big Bend' Area of Florida

Those would be nice to have on my boat since I live in the middle of that area. How should I pay you for the mailing?
