    Lower unit stuck

Just curious, how does that not damage bearings or the crank case? I wouldn't think the bearings or case could handle that much load in that direction.

    overniter pilot house

There are 1-2 GW walk-arounds that have had permanent hardtops/enclosures built on them. Not sure if any were an overnighter. Your biggest issue will be weight. Narrow beam boat and mass up high will make it roll more. Just adding the factory hard tops will have a noticable affect.

Replacing Command link gauges Twin F150's

Word is there is a place in FL that will recondition these for a fraction of new. I'd go that route and save yourself a headache.

    268 Islander Fuel Tank Replacement

I've been scratching my head with what to do with ours. The set up with the new engines is so efficient, I could get by with the auxiliary tank only at 50 gallons. It alone would give me 110+ miles of range. However the main 150 tank full really stabilizes the boat. If I top it off in the fall...

Water level - scuppers - new engine

I'm not sure it can happen with a bilg pump, but with oir old 248 the sink would mysteriously get water in it. When running in the rough, waves would hit the port side just right and push water into the sink from the drain line. The outlet was about 1.5' above the water line. With your boat...

Water level - scuppers - new engine

I agree that ideally the boat would be designed for the added weight but it isn't. Yes, adding ballast does have trade offs, but in this case it isn't the end of the world. Hell, GW actually sold at least one model with ballast for this exact same issue.

Water level - scuppers - new engine

Not to be argumentative, but this would not be true with his boat. It depends on where the center of mass is. In his case it is near the back of the fish boxes. Ballast up front will have a teeter-totter effect and raise the stern. We experimented with bodies on our 248. One kid up front would...

    Walk-around vs true fishing boat

The 228 has a huge cockpit for a 22 footer. However the beam is only 8' and there is no step up to the helm. That means the cabin is narrow with a low ceiling. The 218 beam is 8'6" and the 232 is 9'3" with a step up to the helm, so the 232 has a higher ceiling. You mentioned a 400 hp single for...

    Walk-around vs true fishing boat

Either can get it done, but bigger fits the travel bill much better. The 232 will have a bigger, taller cabin. The 218 will be better for water activities, but the 232 still works. I went from a 248/258 to a 270. The height difference in the cabin was a major improvement for our use. We fish...

    Walk-around vs true fishing boat

You plan to travel on the boat from Florida to Boston, or do you mean trailer the boat to those locations? If you plan to travel on the boat, I wouldn't go less than a Gulfstream.

Removing fish hook from your finger

The difference for my situation is that I needed someone to securely hold my finger so it didn't try to go with the hook when pulling. That would have been ugly. Also in this video the guy should have placed his finger further up the hook to keep the barb less engaged for the entire duration of...

Removing fish hook from your finger

Nope. That's what I had anticipated, but the method was more like tooth extraction with a string. The important part to understand and execute is to disengage the barb while extracting.

Removing fish hook from your finger

Stuck myself badly today for the 1st time ever. Went entirely through my middle finger. Check out the video on you tube. The technique is actually what the ER used and I could have done it offshore and saved my day and expense. I would advise numbing with ice 1st.

Ah. That would explain the price. Why do you want the large carpeted ones? I've never had a want for anything other than the pole type guides.

I know I'll get chastised for this, but I have ran both loadrites I've owned close to their limits for thousands of miles collectively with no issues. Full disclosure: I maintain it well, it is always stored indoors on concrete, tire pressure is checked regularly, I'm in freshwater, and I always...

Wait. You mean more isn't always better? ;) Triaxles provide better stability for bigger boats, but similar results can be attained if the trailer is set up right. The problem is most people setting up trailers don't know what they are doing so more axles and bigger trucks put a bandaid on a...

    1987 24' Grady CC Project - Miami

Your ambition and results are impressive! Ive been watching over at THT. Keep it up! I'm curious to know how difficult it was to pull the front cap. I would have expected it to be wet set with glass on the hull making it impossible to separate without cutting up the cap. What did you experience?
