    Speed Knob

Oh, and just to be clear, I'm not knocking the Schmidt. I've used a couple other speed knobs over the years and there was definitely a difference in the feel between those and the Edson - the Edson was very noticeably heavier/robust and smoother - but I don't know what those other brands were.

Does that thought translate to GW's wiring and transom building process.... ;)

Rust from ladder on boat "pad" (non slip surface)

Rust Out is another version - I've used that on many things and it works very well. I prefer the powder so I can adjust the strength. OSU, maybe it WOULD be worthwhile to try this stuff first - maybe it gets it "good enough" for you? But, a heat gun and plastic scraper/plastic razor blades...

Rust from ladder on boat "pad" (non slip surface)

Muriatic acid might clean it - but that pad is shot and will never get completely clean. Just replace it. You could use something as simple as black grip tape. FYI, the rust actually is from the ladder sitting there for extended times without being slightly elevated (for air circulation). A...

Rebedding bow rail mounts on a 1996 268 Islander

Hard to say without having that model, but the general premise is that if you can't feel them through the headliner and you know that where they physically are that you can't get to them... there is no magically answer. As noted above, cut access holes and replace with deck plates. Cutting...

Starboard side swim ladder with base

Did you try contacting a dealer to at least find out if it's available through them and/or who the manufacturer was/is?

Adding an Additional (emergency) Bilge Pump in the Stern - 2006 Marlin

Azec is PVC, right? If not, you can get PVC board at HD relatively cheap in the trim board section. You can glue two or three pieces together and then match the angle of your hull with the table saw. I agree - there's no reason to keep dry and out of the water - it will be totally fine...

Adding an Additional (emergency) Bilge Pump in the Stern - 2006 Marlin

You MUST install a new, dedicated hose. Otherwise you will lose GPM flow rate. A new hole is no big deal - easy to do and very common place. Regardless of science, most likely (ideally) the e-pump will be larger and use a large diameter hose, as well.

Adding an Additional (emergency) Bilge Pump in the Stern - 2006 Marlin

Do you have room to run the new hose a few inches left/right/above/below the existing thru-hull? Keep in mind that only the float switch for the pump needs to be mounted higher (an L-bracket to the stringer would work... and it doesn't need to be close to the pump). It looks like you might...

    Thru hull access question

That'll work fine, too. I wasn't sure if you had the clearance for it in that area. Keep in mind that if you make the hole too small, it takes a few extra steps to re-cut a larger hole. If you can control the pressure well enough you don't need to do this, but otherwise start it in reverse...

    Thru hull access question

I understand your apprehension! When you haven't done this kind of thing much, it's a daunting task. Once you do a couple times, then you get more comfortable. Take comfort in knowing that OTHERS are comfortable doing it so you just need to get past the apprehension and then you'll be fine :)...

Snap in carpet recommendations for older 225 Tournament

What's "wrt"? Corinthian Marine is a good manufacturer to deal with - as is Snap In Carpets. Both will have the newer "vinyl weave" carpet that's been used by many manufacturers over the last 10 years in lieu of actual "carpet". LOT'S of advantages to the vinyl stuff. Even if you did find a...

Atlantic Towers - Tower in a Box

Yes, I do. It's actually been talked about quite a bit on here. If you search for that, there's quite a bit of reading material on this forum about them.

    Thru hull access question

There's nothing wrong with cutting a hole - it's a normal, day-in-day-out thing to do in the industry.

Bottom Paint for lower unit and trimtabs

Same here - those two areas (tabs and lower motor bracket) seem to always grow stuff. I suspect that it's because the "inside" of the tab and the motor bracket are a protected area and the forward motion of the boat doesn't allow water pressure (or even current) to wash away anything that is...

    Speed Knob

One reason could be the type of companies. Edson is a private, small business in Mass - which is nice. I believe Schmitt is underneath a larger company? Could be quailty of components... Edson might have heavier SS. I think the Edson warranty is 50 years? I can't speak to customer service...
