I replaced mine with a Lewmar Profish. I did have to upgrade the wiring from the batteries to the bow. The Profish offers a free fall. I did have to utilize starboard to mount it do to the defferent bolt patterns.

Contact Grady about mounting a 4 stroke to your transom. If they recommend against it look at the Yamaha HPDIs. They get mileage close to a four stroke. If you can go 4 stroke the new Yamahas look like the way to go as they weigh less than the old models.

Congrats on the new boat! For the transducer wire there is PVC from the bilge to the starboard side aft bunk. You can unscrew the access panel on the starboard wall and see them.

If it is not structural, I would just have it cleaned out and keep an eye on it. I would use it as a bargaining tool, not a deal breaker. If the previous owner let it sit for a little while with water there is a chance for mold. Also, what is "significant"? Any pictures?

According to the Yamaha website the HPDI is still available. I beleive this is the longest unchaged run for a high power yamaha outboard. That in itself should speak to the quality of the design.

Take a look at 200hp HPDIs, while not as quiet as a four stroke they are better than the old 2 strokes. They will not cause a scupper issue and deliver the same (or better) fuel economy as a four stroke when under way.

That is strange that it is not at least spash proof. I may have to rethink where to mount it when I order one.

I have read the Ring Free is slightly modified/rebadged Chevron Techron. Supposedly that is who Yamaha contracted to manufacture the product. It may be a good idea to do a cost comparison.

Does anyone with a Sailfish have a Marine Air Systems 5K- Cool Mate A/C Model CLM5KC/1 installed? I found one I may buy, just trying to figure out if it will fit.

I am replacing my old simpson/lowrence with a profish 700. The bolt patterns are totally different so I am using some marine board as a "shim" between the hull and the profish. All I have done so far is take the old windless off and pull some measurements. I'll keep you updated.
