New Boat Set-up - Mechanical or Digital 150s?

What others mentioned plus throttle sync and using one throttle for both engines. Operating mechanical twins in rough conditions will have you constantly trying to match engine rpm's as you are picking your way through the slop. Digital allows you to sync the engines to the same rpm and use one...

    Islander Trailer Setup

See post #11. The wrong horse is being beaten! :)

    Islander Trailer Setup

Perfectly level? No. Within an inch? Yes I weighed it at a point less than 3" behind the center of the ball coupler.

    Islander Trailer Setup

Last I checked it was 625 lbs on my $1700 digital calibrated scale. Good enough?:p

    Islander Trailer Setup

My last rig was set up the same way with radials and towed beautifully in the worst conditions. There is something more happening than the tires.

    Islander Trailer Setup

That's my plan. Hookup's photos were the sanity check. I've set up a number of trailers with excellent results, but this one has been a challenge to say the least! I bet I have over 20 hours setting bunks, moving winch stands, moving axles, fenders, etc. The good thing is the changes are making...

    Islander Trailer Setup

Tongue weight is 600 lbs. Trailer has a carrying capacity of 8400 lbs. Typically the boat is around 7500 lbs. I have no reason to fill both tanks and water. Even if I did, I'd be around 8200 FWIW. I think you are right about the tires. I likely have load range D, because I know I could go to E...

    Islander Trailer Setup

Dennis, Hookup has no issues, it's me. His initial post was actually a PM I wrote. He couldn't post photos in the chat so he made the thread. KY, I'll have to check the tires, but I think they run at 80 psi. I max the pressure out. As for capacity of the tires - total is about 10.4k lbs. If I...

    Islander Trailer Setup

I know! You'd think I'd have no issues, but the trailer is pretty easily unsettled by semi's driving alongside or crosswind. My guess is this trailer is simply more sensitive because of how it is spec'd. Trailer gross rating is 10k but uses 6 k axles. Tires are the limiting factor. Considering...

    Islander Trailer Setup

Appreciate the feedback, but you are reading an oddly written post wrong. Hookup is having no sway issues, but I am, despite having the trailer set up to Loadrites specs. His truck is an 07 rated for 9k lbs. Mine is the 18 set up for 13k. I asked for photos to see how his boat was positioned to...

    Islander Trailer Setup

Right, but he is the one who tows to the keys every year with rock solid stability. Appearance doesn't matter; only the numbers and results.

    Islander Trailer Setup

Wow. Your axles are way further ahead than mine and I already moved mine up at least 10". My tongue weight is arguable too heavy by some standards, but I'm dead on for what the trailer manufacturer recommends. The trailer is way more stable than when I started, but sways a little more than I...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

Was that the pump for the head? If so, I had assumed mine was in the holding tank. I'll need to look to see if mine is in the same spot. I had a screw drop into the shower leading me to access the drain hose in that same area. Total PIA for sure! The Islanders are feature packed boats but...

    Towing Grady with Jeep

How far are you towing it on those trips? What is the payload capacity of the Jeep? You can usually find it on your door sticker. Are you the only passenger or will the jeep be loaded? Towing capacity is one thing, but payload is another. Going beyond your payload can make for a miserable and...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

Where is Doc Stressor when you need him? He is a chemical engineer and I believe no longer an active member. The interwebs say vinegar will take care of the varnish, but it will react with aluminum. The question is how bad will it react for the time you have it in the tank? I don't think water...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

70g tank looks good, but the 130 looks to have a lot of varnish. What's the plan?

    Marlin cruising speed and economy

What seasick says for fuel economy on an ox66 is correct. 4 strokes have different gearing and have a higher RPM sweet spot.

    Re- power 2001 Advance

Because the 2001 247 has the short running surface, you might want to reconsider the zukes. The 257 has the full running surface for more buoyancy to support the additional weight of 4 strokes. Yours does not. I had a 248 - the same hull as yours. Because of the tendency of that hull to run bow...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

I would suggest some type of detergent with your water or non flammable solvent - if it exists. I'm sure you already know this, but be careful about static sparks with the compressed air and vac untill you are 100% sure the fuel vapor is gone.
