My gripe about the 275 is the hardtop. It doesn't leave a lot of open cockpit space, and the cockpit is likely smaller than your 228 to begin with.
IMO the Pursuit hardtop makes for more room.
Looks like what you really need is an F26 Tigercat! Too bad they stopped making them. If you want to go fast in chop, nothing will outperform a cat. However, you need to understand how to run them. Your limited experience might not be a good fit. See if anyone in your area has a 30' Worldcat to...
Read the Permatrim FAQ page to understand what they do. The product has it's applications, but I don't think it is a good idea on a bracketed boat. The foil needs to stay on top of the water to net the claimed performance. Hulls with short running surfaces (older Grady's) and bracketed boats...
I've seen rotted Grady transoms flex when pushing the hull on plane. The movement was substantial to the point it was a little frightening. Despite that there were no cracks on the outside of the transom. Whatever is going on with the boat you are looking at is significant regardless of the cause.
Thanks Dennis. I am whining a bit. My luck with fixing seemingly little issues with this boat have not gone well. Oddly, big stuff that most wouldn't touch with a 10' pole have gone surprisingly well. An easy win would be welcome!
Where? Mr. Drummond's closet:
As for the time, I'm assuming it is bonded in place, requiring heating, cutting, chipping, 4 letter vocab excercises, cleaning, resealing, etc.
I will do that. However I was hoping to avoid turning a 5 minute job into 3 hours by replacing the assembly.
I also have to wrap my head around the fact that I'm spending $150 to cover a shower head where a $0.10 piece of plastic previously sat.
FWIW, I pulled the tank out of our 248. It was well neglected from the previous owner and had some significant funk. Sloshing hot water and bleach was amazingly effective to remove everything from the walls of what appeared to be a polyethylene tank.
I think the 10% bleach suggestion from Grady...
I have no doubt they work better. I have been impressed by the in hull I have now, but the previous external on our 248 got the job done just fine for what we do. Considering how tight the engine spacing is on the back of the 270, I can likely hide most of the cable. I'll have to check with...
I currently have an in hull transducer with a Ray marine c80. I'm likely going with a new Garmin with a transom mounted transducer. I really hate the thought of drilling a large hole anywhere on the boat for the cable, but I don't have any choice if I want side scan capability. At this point my...
I wondered the same.
From the limited view of the photo, it is very likely the tongue weight is way too high. Typically the winch post is behind the point that the I-beams come together, not in front.
From my experience most trailers are leaving the factory with axles placed for stern heavy...
Another observation. Was your ball mount at that height when it broke? If so, that could be a contributor if the trailer has torsion axles. Unlike leaf spring axles that typically are equiped with spring equalizers to handle uneven loading or trailer that isn't level, torsion axle trailers need...
