Suggestions to rebuild floor hatch over gas tank 24 offshore

I know my buddy‘a hatch is hard as a rock. I’m not thinking there is any water in it. I would guess it to be about 10 pounds difference. Maybe 15 lbs foam to 25 pounds wood. Wood may also soak up more resin. Percentage wise, the difference was huge when I picked them up.

Suggestions to rebuild floor hatch over gas tank 24 offshore

Thank you. It’s my ocd. Lol. I can’t help paying attention to detail. I had the tanks covered with my buddy’s hatch since he had his gas tanks out of his Caribbean 24. I really noticed the difference in weight when I lifted the factory built hatch out and dropped mine in place of it. 1/2 inch...

Sometimes a stronger p stream means there is a blockage in the power head like a pressure valve sticking or a slightly stuck thermostat.

I am considering a mechanical fuel gauge on top of fuel tank

Look into the Yamaha oem fuel management gage. It gives fuel used, and when hooked up the gps output NEMA 0182 wire ( blue on the Garmin) it gives you the instant mpg reading. If you cut the data plug off the back of the gage and splice the white wire of the gage to the blue output of the gps...

I have 2 interstate referbs that I put in on 2015. They are 27 series deep cycle that I can get from interstate warehouse for 50 bucks a piece. They usually last me 6-7 years. I have livewells, washdowns, and lights that I run for hours on anchor for night fishing offshore. I run out on all...

Suggestions to rebuild floor hatch over gas tank 24 offshore

Finally got the hatch torn apart and rebuilt. I tore out the rotten wood squares and ground down the underside. I put 1 layer of ounce n a half mat and extra resin as a base and laid 1/2 in divinicyl on top while it was still wet. Put weights on top until dry. I cut the foam 1 inch from all...

Suggestions to rebuild floor hatch over gas tank 24 offshore

Excellent advise from everyone! Thank you so much for the info. There is a marine store here in town that I am able to get a 4x8 sheet of 1/2 divinicyl for around 78 bucks. This will do both of my hatches over the gas tanks. I will be getting into this project this week and I will report back...

Suggestions to rebuild floor hatch over gas tank 24 offshore

I am in the process of rebuilding my floor hatch. It is approximately 5 ft by 2 ft. Not sure what the best core material would be. Was thinking 3/8 or 1/2 in ply covered with ounce n a half mat? Biaxal? Woven riven? I know enough about fiberglassing to get myself in trouble. Lol.

Tips on how a Grady handles?

Driving Twins is like driving a zero turn lawn mower with a few differences . One thing to remember is to leave the wheel at midship. Reverse has less torque than forward, so when you are turning in your own length, little bit more reverse is applied than forward. Would be a good idea to...

It looks like the hardware to me also. Could be 302 stainless and not 316. Hull cleaner and a little compound will fix the stains after the hardware is replaced.

    Anchor advice

If you heat with a oxygen acetylene torch, you can bend the anchor back and keep most of the strength. Just be careful not to melt it. Little extra acetylene n less oxygen will help the heat from getting too concentrated.

    Slow fuel leak?

Down here in south Florida, at least 35% of my repairs at my outboard shop was an ethanol problem. Our humidity and the heat is off the chart all year around. Without stabilizing, ethanol gas lasts about 4 months before it smells bad. Non ethanol lasts 10 to 12 months before it goes bad. Every...

    Slow fuel leak?

That is terrible. The ethanol damage to the boats in your area must be off the charts. Is that a city or a state restriction?

    Slow fuel leak?

If you have a poly tank, ethanol fuel can cut the life of the tank. I would recommend non ethanol gas for the sake of your whole fuel system.
