    Windless Issues

Did you purchase the line? If so, who made it and what were its specs. It is unusual for the situation you describe. Did the line fray over multiple or long sections of line or was the damage concentrated in one area, Dis you see the capstan turning but the line wasn't retrieving?

    Power 225 up to 300 24 offshore

I like the 300 model especially if it is a new model, 2022 or 2023. Earlier models apparently can have issues with head cracks

WTB oil pumps for 2 stroke yamaha 225 1999

What is a secondary oil pump? I think there are two pumps, one mechanical on the motor itself and one electric on the remote oil tank. This assumes motors are SX models

    Battery switch issue

Four starting batteries is not a problem exactly. As a mater of fact, when there are two batteries wired in parallel, they should be the same type. Here is where to start. The accessory feed that powers just about everything should be connected to the output lug of one of the battery switches...

    Battery switch issue

I am curious about the 5 blown fuses. When did they blow and did they all blow at the same time? Were there storms with lightning in your area recently? Just to keep us sane, have the switches worked before? If the lights you are referring to are the navigation lights, normally during the...

    Steering Cable size

You might find the length stamped on the cable either at the motor or possibly at the steering box. You can estimate by measuring the length of the cable from the steering box to where is disappears in the rigging tube, to that add the distance from there to the other end of the rigging tube and...

    2016 Yamaha 250 timing belt

I did lookup the schedule and the valves should be inspected clearance should be adjusted at 5 yr or 1000 hours. Here is the list of initial and routine maintenance items https://blog.simyamaha.com/yamaha-four-stroke-maintenance-schedule/ This blog also references the need to inspect and...

    2016 Yamaha 250 timing belt

Timing belt failures on cars with metal chain belts are pretty rare. Most failures are on belt driven models. I agree that the dealers and manufacturers recommend more frequent maintenance than is probably necessary. In nay case, the OP should at least have or do a thorough inspection of the...

    Wipers vs no wipers

Another concern wih RainX is to make sure it doesn't get on your isinglass. Strataglass states that using it on their product will void the warranty.

    2016 Yamaha 250 timing belt

The belts age even if not used so the years are important. If the motor is heavily used, it might accumulate 1000 hours in less than 5 years. In that case more frequent changes are recommended

    Position on trailer

Actual distance from bunk to tab is not all that important. The critical factor is whether the hull is sitting the correct position for it's center of weight and that relates directly to the tongue weight number ( assuming the trailer is sized correctly.

Newbie needs help please_FIRST boat- new vs. used GW?

Yes you can trim up the motor but at some point you will lose some control. That may or may not be an issue depending on things like wind and current. There is also a limit to how much you can trim up before the prop ventilates and/or the motor starts sucking air instead of cooling water

    Need Insurance Recommendation

I have Progressive and am happy with the company. That said rates have increased over the last years mostly due to all the claims from natural disasters, storms etc. It doesn't mater that you haven't had claims, what matters is the companies payouts for all their customers. Of course if you had...

    Ground wire corrosion in outboard

I don't use WD40. I would use Boeshield T-9. That stuff is good for fuse blocks and the like also. I also have to disagree about dielectric grease. It is an insulator and is not recommended for use on the mechanical connections of conductors. That means it is not intended to be spread on the...

Newbie needs help please_FIRST boat- new vs. used GW?

What is your tidal swing ( low to high) The 225 with the motor down will not clear the bottom at low tide. Granted you would tie off the boat with the motor up but you have to have it down for the approach and departure.

    Trim Tabs

Did you read the steps for calibration:) Make sure that both trim tabs are in the full up position. When you power up the TPI the port and starboard displays will begin to flash alternately, indicating that the system is not calibrated. Press and hold both buttons on the TPI simultaneously for...

    Scupper drain

Lift the flapper and put the hose nozzle in from the outside. Scupper hoses clog all the time. It is also possible that a hose is worn and either has a deteriated inside or a kink. Make sure the flapper does not stick. If you have a slow drain and water is puddling, lift the flap on the...

    Any Boat Industry Feedback ?

Based on the listings I see for new boats and talking to reps at shows, it seems that the mania of the last few years has subsided, Demand is somewhat normal. At the shows, there were discounts off of list price and inventories are up. In the used market, price reductions in the asking price are...

    Trailer Bunk Set-Up for a 330 Express

I did some research and found several discussions about head cracking on Yamaha models. The problem is a casting issue apparently and seems to be a lot more more common on higher HP motors and motors with blowers. I also read that heads were redesigned in 2021 and that seems to have eliminated...
