    Advice/opinion 1996 248 Voyager price

Considering the availability on the left coast, the price isn't bad as long as the boat and trailer are 100% sound. East coast that boat might go for closer to $20k or less. IMO the two biggest issues are the carbed engine and the wood in the structure. The carbureted 2 - stroke will be...

    Favorite Ethanol Treatment

Startron claims to prevent carbon deposits. For you all that are using Startron and Ring-free, is it extra insurance or has experience shown Startron wasn't removing enough carbon?

    Tow Vehicle Recommendations

If the Sequoia has the right gears, the only way you will know the boat is behind you will be from a glance in the mirror or your gas gage moving more quickly! That v8 will out-tow every v8 under 6 liters being made today. I know because I used a Tundra with a 5.7 to bring ours back home from...

    anti ventilation plate height

You might be able to go a little higher, but keep in mind gurus will advise to keep the AV plate in line with the bottom of a conventional transom. As mentioned, once you are too high, you will know it.

    Tow Vehicle Recommendations

IMO, I'd look for a minimum of 8k lbs rating considering the distance, terrain, and cargo load. If you aren't tow vehicle savvy, keep in mind that most manufacturers sell identical vehicles with very different tow ratings. The tow ratings will differ because of cooling systems, engine torque...

    Great Lakes Question

Having the time or amazing luck would be key to making the Great Lakes trip work with what you have. A boat that can run in 3-4 footers would definitely be a game changer for the trip... in Erie at least. That way you would be able to run roughly 70% of the time comfortably. If you are itching...

    black gear oil

Something in the oil is reacting with the aluminum would be my guess.

    Unreliable Autopilot

I forgot to mention auto pilot #2 must be a machine to minimize the potential for conflict.

    Unreliable Autopilot

Bc282, I think you might want to read dale's post again. A key issue went right over your head! :D Dale, I think you need to show auto pilot #1 what she is missing while occupied by driving so that she sees the need and doesn't feel threatened by auto pilot #2. Good luck!

    Great Lakes Question

Magicalbill's assessment is very accurate. I know the Journey's hull is the same as mine plus about 2' or so of running bottom. My complaint about the Voyager is that the only way I can get it to run in chop is to trim and tab down a lot, killing my fuel economy. I can run like this close to...

    Great Lakes Question

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think you realize what you are in for. Unlike Florida, the great Lakes are unpredictable year round, but maybe less unpredictable in August. I'm 99.9% convinced the wind and waves forecasting is done by a chimp that throws stuff at a wall. Where...

Hello and trailer selection help needed

Congrats on getting her home. Unfortunately it looks like the Grizwalds (summer vacation reference) had a cheaper cross country trip! Ouch!

    Rear Hatch on Voyager

A plastic molded trash/storage insert is what mine has. The insert is very deep... about 2.5'.I have no idea where one could buy a replacement. Call Grady customer service. Congratulations on the boat!

Hello and trailer selection help needed

I bought a Load Rite "Elite" about 2 years ago. Because I don't trailer a lot and I don't go into salt water, I didn't upgrade on a few items, but did on others. Buying from Pirate Marine in Ohio netted the best deal I could find and he set up the trailer for an additional $75. Worth every penny...

1991 GW Sailfish Sitting heavy at stern in water

I can't comment on the listing issue, but I think I see something else you need to address ASAP. In your photo it appears you have pressure treated lumber sitting on top of your gas tank. You need to get that out of there in the very near future and clean the area it was covering. Repainting...

    1987 yamaha 150 2-stroke blew again

Congrats finding the culprit. I thought that engine looked way too clean! Simply amazing the engine ran as long as it did pumping water into it! Hopefully you can get it back into the water soon enough to enjoy another few trips before old man winter shows up.

    Need advice on floor supports

On another boat we learned the hard way that pressure treated lumber, water, and aluminum are a very bad combination. If I hadn't seen the damage with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it!

Thoughts on 24' offshore with a 200 HPDI?

Short of the long... you can get up on plane, but won't be able to operate the engine in the intended design range. These hulls are designed to cruise at 28-32 mph. If you are lucky wot might get you there, but not good for economy or long term health of the engine.

    1987 yamaha 150 2-stroke blew again

IMO, I would run premix at the highest oil concentration possible until you 100% verify that your oil injection system is working properly. The photos you have posted would lead me to believe you are not getting enough oil. Another option would be to ditch the injection system completely and...

Opinion: best trailer for 226 seafarer... Bunk or rollers?

Re: Opinion: best trailer for 226 seafarer... Bunk or roller I've owned both. I wouldn't take a roller trailer if you gave it to me, unless I had specific needs as already mentioned. With steep/deep ramps in my neck of the woods, I can unload in the time it takes me to back up. Loading is maybe...
