    Help with fuel consumption please

Apx 70 miles..then trolling at 7.5 kts. If we get his 20 gph at 20 kts....roughly 1mpg we are golden.....if it is closer to the 1 mpg per engine then we are right at our limit without carrying extra fuel on deck.....which I would rather not do.

    Help with fuel consumption please

A friend of mine owns a 1997 Marlin with twin 1997 Yammi F250's on the back. He and I are planning a tuna trip for the next decent weather window. I am trying to calculate anticipated fuel consumption for the day. I believe the boat has 2 tanks 150 gals each.....we will have 5 guys on the...

    Water in fuel

Are you getting your gas at the same place each time? It could be THEIR tanks that are the problem.

    cost for waxing

It costs me about $15 for wax/gel coat restorer and $100.00 to my nephew to run the buffer every spring......works out to less than $5.00 per ft! :)

Bennett trim tabs have failed twice

Buuuuut...having said that.....could the tab/actuator be mounted incorrectly....maybe misaligned....putting undue stress on the tab when deployed?

Bennett trim tabs have failed twice

I know Bennett is the top of the line but I am not a fan. I have had more failures than I care to remember....pump several times....cylinders....I even had a tab separate from the hinge while underway. When I took a look the tab was hanging from the cylinder and the hinge was still attached to...

    Boat launched - failed... heh

Russ......was there a reason you couldn't power up onto the trailer at least partway, to take some stress off the winch?

    Boat launched - failed... heh

Russ.......sorry for the trouble you are having bro. One thing I might add though.....Grady's are notoriously hard to handle at low speeds in a breeze until you get used to it. I might have avoided a busy ramp on Labor Day weekend for my first cruise. I have run Offshores for many years and I...

Can you really waterski behind the Freedom 285?

Welcome to the forum. Of course you COULD ski or tube ...it is just not your best option for that kind of thing. Too big and slow to plane unless you really hit it hard and why do you want to do that with that kind of boat? I have skied off the back of rowboats powered by a 9.9HP outboard...

    Cost to replace fuel tank

Like Leeccoll above...I replaced the main tank in my 24 offshore a few years back.....93 gal capacity....a fabricator made it up for me for 1K and I installed it myself.

Bow thruster issues since date of purchase

Grady White customer service has helped me with several questions on how to deal with issues on my 30 year old boat.....not sure why they "wouldn't care" about a brand new boat.

    Outboard for 240 offshore

25 in shaft for my 1985 and 1982 Offshores.........my experience: my 1997 Yammi 250 pushed my 1985 Offshore at just about 40MPH with just me and a light load of fuel........My 2006 E-Tec 225 pushes my 1982 at 37MPH using half the fuel....and I never need to do 37MPH....I cruise at 25-30MPH very...

    Running at night

Like others have said... get familiar with the equipment you have.....your chartplotter along with your radar will help you out in open water....bays and sounds with tight channels are a different animal......I like to do dry runs during daylight and then save a track of the trip to help me at...

    Anchor/Windlass Help

Well........as I think about it....when I toggle the switch "DOWN" I hear the motor run but the gypsy doesn't turn....the chain does not spill out on the deck. As my previous windlass was the freefall type , this didn't really register with me as a problem. I will be looking at the roller...
