Midship bulkhead, what do you make of this? Islander 268

It doesn't really matter. The outboard structure helps keep the large stringers vertical. You will be fine. If you put your hand in there. The forward tank fuel hoses run directly to the Starboard side and up to the fill. That hose is only 8" or so in front of the bulkhead I had to cut out...

Midship bulkhead, what do you make of this? Islander 268

That drawing (not in my owners manual) looks nothing like my 1997 268 Islander. The forward tank (134 gallon) is 68" long and is almost all under the helm. Behind it is a bulkhead the width of the aft tank. There is no extra space in the compartments. The bulkhead between the tanks is completely...

    Radar for 2023 285 Freedom

What Garmin chartplotter do you have? If you don't have a magnetic heading source (autopilot?) consider adding a Garmin SteadyCast sensor. Raday impossible to use if you are stopped in the fog or trying to sort out where you are. Can get you in real trouble. Any of the Garmin GMR18 radars would...

replacing old garmin gps with depth finder,

Sonar technology has improved significantly over the last ten year. CHIRP and side-scan are now everyday transducers. You can use your existing transducer but I would recommend upgrading. The 943xsv/1243xsv are great units. Whichever one fits your boat and your budget. Replacing the cable is...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

I'm leaving this weekend for Islamorada - 2 1/2 months. I'll be fishing every day if possible but it will be within 30 miles. I did fuel tanks this year and was busy with work stuff. If I had the time this year I would have done the transom. Instead it will be done in the spring...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

The two photo's on the left are my boat. You can see the wet transom. I cut it out to repair it. Without opening it up there is nothing to see. Where are you located? Maybe you can have a good shop look at it. My guys in NJ told me to use mine - it's too soon. They walked away from a $10,000...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

Pull the screws from the rub rail across the back of the boat. That caulk separation is just UV aging (not flex) and letting water in. Clean it out and re-caulk. Pulling the bang cap you are going to see a wet transom. You really can't see anything. Have a surveyor put a moisture meter on the...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

The top fiberglass shop here in Cape May County, NJ told me that they won't do a transom before their time is up. Too hard to take apart. There has to be more evidence with cracks occurring. I wouldn't pull the engines unless you are prepared to re-do the transom. Most likley you will find...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

Any evidence the transom is "moving"? Look for crack along the rub rail top and bottom. Check well in front of engine. Look at outboard edges of transom for vertical cracks. If no other cracking I would just re-caulk without removing the engine(s). Monitor it. Drop the board with the battery...

    '95 Islander Seatback Removal

If to look at the seat back you can see two snaps - one inthe right corner and one next to the left hinge. The backrest was redone and snaps eliminated.

    '95 Islander Seatback Removal

Mine lifts straight up. Run something along the bottom edge (bent piece of sheet metal) to look for snaps. Companion seat is the same too but it has snaps

    2001 268 Islander very unstable.

Whatever. I don’t have any problem with my 268. Not sure what is going on with their boats.

    2001 268 Islander very unstable.

Maybe that's the difference. I don't have many people on the boat. I previously had a Luhrs 290 with twin diesels. Wide beam big bow. The boat had a serious chine walk problem. You could be running along at 20 knots in flat calm seas and the boat would lean over hard to one side and stay there...

I don't have a specific how-to for repairing the hatch. On GG go to search > tools > advanced and search coosa and hookup1 as look at different posts. If you have something specific you can PM me or just "reply" to any of the posts and I'll put the answer up on the board.

    2001 268 Islander very unstable.

Let's get a baseline. Where are you boating? What kind of sea conditions? How fast are you trying to go? I'm quite happy with my Islander. But I tend to slow things down to get the ride I want.
