    Do you use Ethanol free?

Does the 87% in your OP refer to octane rating, or gasoline:ethanol ratio? If it is octane, you are comparing apples to oranges, as most of the marinas in my area sell 92-93 octane ethanol free, which is also available on the street.

    Anchor/Windlass Help

Your anchor does not have to pull 12 or 15 feet of chain out of the locker. The windlass brings the chain out of the locker, and the anchor only has to pull the chain between the windlass and the anchor. Doesn’t matter if you have 20 feet of chain in the locker, or 200 feet. As suggested, your...

Work day - update and need help

You live on a ranch in Texas, right? Forget the water hose, and those muffs. Back those engines up to the horse trough and lower them in until the water level is a couple inches over the anti vent plate. Flood the water pumps, and you’ll know whether it’s going to pee, or not.

Expert advice needed for a Fuel Delivery issue?

The float in the center of this f115 filter bowl shows water below and gas above. When the water forces the float to the top it cuts off flow to the engine. Perhaps at speed, there is enough turbulence in the bowl to allow fuel to pass, but not at idle. Have you checked that float level?

Optimal Cruise Speed for Fuel Efficiency? 1998 272

Optimal fuel efficiency is miles per gallon period. And I don't believe that it is the slowest planing speed for every set up. A good boat cover is your best investment for your boat and an accurate real time fuel read out on your GPS is the best investment for your wallet.

    1995 27 Sailfish w/ Twin 200 Ocean Runners

Can you define "Thirsty engines?", as you asked in the OP? What MPG would affect often how you use the boat, if you are paying for all the gas? I would guess that combo would get 2, or less.

Boat to trailer straps when trailering

Did not wish to derail any further, either. Off to the coast to fish for the week-end. Thankfully, at 70, my boat is in the slip, or 100 yards from the neighborhood ramp. Be safe, everyone!

Boat to trailer straps when trailering

The OP asked for opinions, and I gave mine. I have never heard anyone else suggest that the role of a "transom tie down" was to snug the boat forward into the winch post. A google image search for 'boat trailer accidents' will show that catastrophic failure AT the winch stand is not at all...

Boat to trailer straps when trailering

Typical application. How far does that boat have to move forward, before the strap starts to hold it back? Two or 3 feet, at least, and by that time, the winch post is trashed. And who thinks those open, made in China, hooks are going to hold? Geometry also tells me that if that that boat...

Boat to trailer straps when trailering

I am going to have to see your "proof" on that geometry. My view is that as soon as you touch the brakes, those transom straps get looser and looser the harder you brake. How can they not, with everything about the load wanting to lean forward, taking the tension OFF the straps, instead of...

Fuel Gauges Not Working Properly--Manual Calculation Method?

Install an in-line fuel transducer, which gives you read out on your GPS. Program the GPS to tell it your tank capacity, and it will give you gallons used, or gallons remaining, and accurate MPG. Re-set to full when you gas up. Otherwise, besides keeping a manual trip log, doesn't your GPS and...

    204C Live/bait well

That pump shown above is a through the transom model, thus the long threaded nipple. You can get one with a short nipple straight out of the bottom of the pump, which sits on top of your through hull, and will be more secure, or less subject to vibration.

Debating what else I want to do to "get her ready"

"PO thought it had 1000 hours on it, turns out the yamaha meter says they both have like 400. No idea how to tell if it is right or wrong." Are you getting 400 hours off of a gauge, or from an engine readout? Didn't you get a printout of all hours@rpm range before buying the boat?

283 Release T-top canvas to Starboard conversion

I think it makes perfect sense, and has several benefits over canvas. For one, you can extend a solid surface beyond the frame, and increase the size of your top. Tracks, for enclosures, are much easier to attach to a solid surface that to canvas. I also think that boaters, and manufacturers...
