    Replacing Bennett Hydraulic Lines

The hydraulic pump(HPU V351) is mounted somewhere near the transom, so it is unlikely that you can't reach your tab with 20 feet of tubing. The system is self-bleeding, so when you get it repaired, just run the tabs full up to full down a few times.

    Adventure 208 helm setup.

I wonder how well that engine breathes, running on plane with the cover on.

    Windlass - opinions please

Takes two hands to tail the line off the capstan, and windlass switches are momentary, for good reason. How much of this are you doing solo? I bought a new Lewmar windlass on CL a few months ago, but haven't looked at it since. It has the gypsy on one side, and the capstan on the other. I am...

    Windlass - opinions please

A short splice is no different, and no bulkier, that the thousands of back splices attaching rode to chain, and running through windlasses every day. Taper the short splice and it will work fine. Only use 2 or 3 sets of full tucks in the middle, and the taper that is already caught in the...

Grady 208 - bimini poles on outside of enclosure?

Taylor Made bought out Water Bonnet in 2005. Does TM offer a bimini for your boat? Since it is the off-season, maybe someone near you has a top that needs restitching, and would let a reputable shop use it as a template, in return for restitching. (I don't mean take it apart and restitch it...

The problem with the early Goods was that they do not handle chain.

Grady 208 - bimini poles on outside of enclosure?

Have you called the company who made the original enclosure. That would be my first step. They made the bimini, too. I never heard of just the canvas replacement costing anywhere near $1000. But, to do it from scratch is not as easy as just sewing zippers around the edge. Not only is placement...

    Windlass - opinions please

Skunk, I'd run 3 tucks in each direction, taper off a third, two more sets, and another third, two more sets. Taper with a blade on an electric soldering gun.

    Windlass - opinions please

"I've used a capstan on a destroyer but that doesn't help me here..." Actually, it will be a big help. I have also been on plenty of sea and anchor details on a destroyer, with a chief and a first who would tear you a new asshole if you put your hand, or your foot, or your body, in the wrong...

If she would keep it in her purse, that would be one thing, the pain starts when she pulls it out.

My 2 cents on the NY Boat Show

"That said, my wife really prefers to have a cabin with a head you can stand up in." Funny how we can hope to find that in a 30 foot boat, but Boeing can't squeeze one into a 737.

    30" Motors on Jack Plates?

Water rises as it leaves the transom, so typically, bracketed or jacked motors are set higher. You are going the wrong direction, IMHO.

Removing bow back rest cushions on 185 tournament

I have to say, those clips are a ridiculous idea for someone who wants to fish their boat without cushions.

    Cockpit drain covers

You can buy an assortment of three or four Stainless steel sink strainers in the dollar store. They are dome shaped, and mesh, so that you can push the smaller ones into the holes, or turn the larger ones upside down over them.

    Profish 700 install

Is that panel wide enough for the Profish? I replaced the anchor locker hatch with whatever thickness starboard it was that brought it to the original height, and mounted my horizontal windlass to that. Could go back to original with no problem. How large is that panel the windlass is on now...

doesn't the pivoting roller go down when the anchor is down, and stick straight out, plus the anchor, when the anchor is up? Not much net gain. Check out this solution: 2010 Journey through the stem Windless install
