    First Offshore trip.

Adam, I read on the forum the Hull Truth or was it Charleston Offshore Fishing, either way a fellow there is giving up fishing offshore due to high fuel costs, snapper limits and so forth. He was predominantly a bottom bumper and the 2 snapper limit means his catch was costing around $39 a pound...

depth finder intermittent malfunction - SOLVED!

Re: depth finder intermittent malfunction I had issues with inhull AirMAR ducer this spring and the exact same problems you described lead me to open up the bilge and examine the ducer. Mine being an in hull had a leak and the transducer would be periodically exposed to air and not read the...

    First Offshore trip.

On my 228 in the area lakes and on smooth coastal waters with a crew of 5, full tank gas, water and so forth we get 3.0 mpg. Take her offshore in 2to 3s with a 10 knot wind and the fuel economy drops to 2.5 to 2.6 mpg. I would encourage you to run her in some 2-3 or 3-4s for a short time and...

    electrical problem?

I use 2 AGMS and they are wired as they came from the factory with the negative terminals connected then the positive going to the switch. In thinking about this post I did run my live well for an extended period of time while fishing and over night to keep our bait happy. I bought the AGMs...

    electrical problem?

I have had some kind of electrical issue since we bought our boat new in 2009. I first thought it was a bad battery, then replaced the batteries with group 27 AGMs. Battery 1 died within 4 months of owning it and West Marine replaced it. Battey 1 died yet again and in its demise the same exact...

    Old Gradys

Guys and Gals, We were down at Cape San Blas - St. Joe Bay last week and during my time there I saw two old Gradys...both the 204 ( i think ) Overnighters. One was a 1977 and the other a 1978. Funny I was admiring the old boats, both in great condition for being over 30 years old. One of the...

    Tournament 192

Our previous Grady was 1998 192 and the euro stern was fine to me. We really loved the boat and fished it offshore on good days, great water sports boat and cruising lakes and rivers and the Intercoastal Waterway. We were in Fla a week ago down on the Gulf and it rained and rained. It got to...

    GW 225 Offshore?

I have a 228 and fish it not as much as I would like. Most species I target I can get to within 40 miles of the coast and I pick my days, have my Garmin auxillary GPS with XM weather radar on it, as well as my ditch bag with the handheld EPIRB, vhf radio, and other emergency items in it. If you...

    2005 228G Seafer, New Guy

Registering the hull with Grady lets them keep track of the boat and perhaps help you with the boat if there is structural problem. The motor is likely out of warranty and not sure registering anything with Yammaha helps you or not.

Depth finder quit - Garmin GSD 22 w/ 4208 chartplotter

BobP, Thanks for the suggestions. While I have the Garmin 4208, in my discovery doing the work, the transducer is made by Air Mar, Model M 260 and Air Mar says to use the RV/Boat Antifreeze - proplylene glycol and not mineral oil. I found this info on their website.

What sealant to use on the deck hatches

Thanks so much for the tip. I can tell you the dealer did not use silicone when they installed the hatch after installing the depth finder. I think they used 4200 because it by no means releases like silicone. I will be working a little to clean the joint of the old material before I reseal the...

Welcome to the Grady family and the forum...that is a nice boat and what a find...just 58 hours on a boat that is 6 years old! That motor is practically new! I hear it is a nice boat  This is a great forum with a great group of folks to lend advice...

What sealant to use on the deck hatches

Hey Yall: I am in the middle of repairing my Air Mar In Hull Transducer on my 228. I have removed the small deck hatch/ piece to do the work ( not the circular access hatch, but the entire deck panel the hatch is apart of. I am wondering what is the most ideal sealant to use seal the edge when I...

Depth finder quit - Garmin GSD 22 w/ 4208 chartplotter

After my hands a little dirty and inspecting the unit I have found a few interesting things. I bought my boat from Lockwood Marine in Georgia and overall the experience was positive. Turns out they installed a 1 kw Air Mar M206 in hull transducer that has this yellow box which is fluid filled...

Depth finder quit - Garmin GSD 22 w/ 4208 chartplotter

Hey Yall: I am hoping for a solution here. My 4208 no longer reads depth. I took the boat to Fla last weekend to fish and depth was blinking, it would lose the bottom at running speed and recover at trolling speed. We were fishing in 3 to 4s Sunday. Took it out on the lake yesterday and no...

    Upgrading from AM/FM Tape Stereo

I looked at this model Sony, but put in Alpine Marine deck with ipod controller. The full ipod interface sold me on it and that it is an Alpine. I have had automotive products from Alpine and their marine stuff is equally as good.

    E15 GAS

Don't know anything about its availability...but on two new pieces of power equipment I bought the instructions say not to use E 15 and the gas cap on the Honda powered cub cadet tiller says not approved for 15 or greater fuels.
