    Converting to hydraulic steering

I Installed hydraulic steering on my previous boat a 2000 542 Campion and it was quite easy. Yes I had to cut the steering road at the engine to get it out but not a big job at all. The hardest part was fishing the hydraulic lines on that boat as the space was tight. Start to finish was about 3...

    Motor bracket vs transom mounted

The transom cap seems a little odd about the 226 and how you have to flip it down to raise the main engine. Not sure why Grady didn’t design/glass a permanent motor well like many other manufacturers. I noticed the same setup on the 208’s as well. Maybe someone with more knowledge can comment on...

    Motor bracket vs transom mounted

I have the factory Grady bracket/pod version. I haven’t been on the transom version but I would guess you have less room than the bracket version. It also offers more protection in a following sea as the transom on the bracket version is solid without the notch. The large swim grid is an added...

    GW 228 I/O

I believe the inboard version was called the 227 Seafarer. The 226 has the notched transom and the 228 has the Grady pod/bracket which is the model I have. But I could be wrong ;)

    Love my new boat cover

Yes I’m sure it is but the price was about half that of a custom cover to fit better over the pod and outboards. Always a compromise I guess

    Love my new boat cover

Got my boat cover yesterday, put it on , very heavy duty and it covers the motors but I would like to get about 1 foot more of the cover over the big motor. I may try to bring the front up over the pulpit give it a little pull towards the stern to see if I can get the cover to come back a bit...

    228G Jack Plate?

That’s basically what I did, the bracket I made lifted the motor by 5 more inches on the factory pod

    228G Jack Plate?

Or do what I did, I bought a project 1999 228 Seafarer that was an insurance sale without power and the horns on the pod were broken from impact. Bought a 30” DF250 Suzuki and fabricated a bracket for the pod to raise the motor 5 inches, works great. Keeps the powerhead out of the water even...

    A couple questions about a 228 Seafarer...

I have a 2012 Suzuki 250 4 stroke on my 1999 228 Seafarer with a hardtop and it’s tons of power with lots to spare. I’ve had 6 adults out fishing with no shortage of power. The price of the boat you are looking at sounds reasonable you could always upgrade in a few years and sell your 200 to...

Do you think these cushions will clean up?

I bought my project Seafarer a year ago and immediately removed the arm rests as they were in rough shape but just tried the bleach, water and dish soap this morning. Only took about a 2 hour soak and they look much better, thanks for the tip, here’s a before and after picture, not vinyl arm...

    Love my new boat cover

I just ordered the Budge B-1221-X8 Gray 1200 Denier 24’ - 26’ long for my 228 Seafarer as I want the cover over the motors as well. Will let you folks know how it fits in a couple weeks, ordered it from Amazon today. Made the purchase based on PNW_Drifters review. I’m hoping the cover will buy...

    Tell us about your boat/build

Wow amazing story, it’s interesting how our children become immersed in our passions. My oldest daughter is now a Fisheries Officer on the central coast of BC. Much different than your son’s health experience but a similar interest in boating and the water that I’m sure originated from the many...

I haven’t been into Desolation Sound yet but it’s on my bucket list. We have dropped prawn traps at Twin Islands near the entrance with my last boat but friends have been to Teakerne Arm a few times so looking forward to that trip hopefully this year.

That Alaskan hardtop option you are thinking of installing looks awesome, are you going to install a heater for winter use? We are almost neighbours, we fish Port Hardy as well as Nootka and local waters around the Comox Valley.

Outboards sure seem to be a gamble when buying used, one of the Seafarers I missed had a very old Yamaha 225 2 stroke on it, boat was mint, new trailer but the outboard made me nervous and the guy still wanted $50,000 here in BC. I passed and the guy blew the power head last fall, my hunch...

    Tell us about your boat/build

Too funny Kitty Coleman was probably the only place I didn’t fish this past summer, there is another slightly newer 228 Seafarer that looks identical to mine here in Comox. He’s a good friend of mine and one of the turn key boats that I missed buying. Same motors the only way to tell the...

    Tell us about your boat/build

I thought it would be great to hear from Grady owners about their boat and how they got to where they are today. So I will start, I have been fortunate to have a boat most of my life, nothing big but a boat to get on the water, one of my favourite places. I first stepped foot on a Grady 248...
