safe and acceptable "fixes" for a marginally worn tank

Scour Ebay, Craigslist, boating forums, etc for new leftover tanks. They are out there. About a year ago I scored a brand new, never had gas in it 81 gallon tank out of a Shamrock for $100. It even had the WEMA sender in it...

    Transom Repair - South Jersey

Hey Chris, you think that pourable transom compound is heavy enough to sink these f*cking spammers to the bottom if you used it to form some nice size blocks around their feet????

    Thoughts on Sailfish 255 w/ Yamaha 225's

Had a '93 252 rigged w/ 225 OX66s. Ended up haveing to repower it w/ 200s just so I could sell it. Unless you're planning on keeping it until the motors die and you have to repower again, don't do it. The '93 definitely liked the power though...

Anyone ever pull a 208 Adventure with a Jeep Liberty CRD 4X4

Re: Anyone ever pull a 208 Adventure with a Jeep Liberty CRD I used to lug my old 204 around with a Cherokee. She would squat in the rear end because the leaves were a bit soft, but other than that it did great if I kept the speed in check. That old 4.0 was a monster! :D

I think it's just a cover for the lower engine mount.

    Marine surveyor in Maryland

You would probably be better off finding a certified Yamaha mechanic to do a pre-purchase engine inspection. For a surveryor, I would recommend Mike Preveti out of Solomons. http://previtimarineconsulting.com/

    232 GULFSTREAM/ SINGLE OX66 250HP PROP SELECTION.

I was able to raise the motors (Yamaha 225s) two notches from the factory (lowest) setting on my old bracketed '93 Sailfish. At the same time, I went from the original 14-3/4 x 19 Yamaha props to 15-1/4 x 19 Merc Mirage Plus wheels and that combo made her run like an entirely different boat...

    recoring deck hatch

Check out my post at the end of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17393 It shows how I size and cut the core. The glass I put down over the core, goes down into the valleys shown and then wraps up the sides. Same with the extra strips I lay down in the valleys as well.

    gelcoat color match...

Standard white gelcoat w/ a tiny...and I mean TINY...bit of brown coloring agent has worked well for me. When I color matched the gelcoat on my old '85 and '93, I would simply add the liquid gelcoat to my mixing cup first. Then I would squeeze a dab of coloring agent on to a scrap piece of...

WA, CC or DC for family/fishing use?

Thanks Bob...but the wife said "no projects". Fortunately, what I heard her say was "no projects...until the Mako is usable".

    1989 204 Overnighter w/ 04' yamaha

Re: 1989 204 Overnighter w/ 04' yamaha *New Boat* The floor panel isn't all that wide. If properly built, it won't need supports under it. I did some work on a 204 Overnighter last winter. It included (among other thins) pulling and resealing the access panel, replacing the tank sending unit...

WA, CC or DC for family/fishing use?

I would like to see the transom on the 228 redesigned to match what is on the 225. I think that layout works better for both fishing and seating. But I can't afford a new 228, so it really doesn't matter what I would like to see...

To fog or not to fog OX66 250hp

I used to fog my old OX66s (one at a time) by spraying the fogging oil in the throttle bodies (alternate a few seconds on each) while at a fast idle. Could never get the engines to stall out no matter how much oil I hit them with. So, I just got in the habit of tieing a string to the stop...

I cant get fuel tank out of my 1992 tournament 19!

From what I can see, that tank looked to be pretty clean. I'm thinking the hole you have there may have been from something rubbing against the tank and not from corrosion. Look at the area of the tank cavity where that hole was and see if you have any shards of glass sticking up that may have...

WA, CC or DC for family/fishing use?

I think Bob's Cay hit the nail on the head. If the enclosed head is usable, that will probably be the route we take (as long as I can get a hardtop w/in a year or so). But if it's even the slightest bit cramped, I'm going to push for the walkaround. No hardtop = no dual console for me.

Correct fasteners for a swim platform/ladder

For something like a swim platform you want to through bolt whenever possible. I have never had any problems using regular stainless steel nuts and bolts sourced from the local hardware store. Drill your mounting holes oversize, then backfill with thickened epoxy to seal off the core. Then...

I cant get fuel tank out of my 1992 tournament 19!

You are a braver man than I. :goodjob How did the measurements of your existing tank compare to those in the blueprint that GW sent you? And the big question, how did tank...I mean the pieces of the tank...look when you got them out?

I cant get fuel tank out of my 1992 tournament 19!

From what I remember of the 1988 Tournament 19 I owned for a few weeks (yes, weeks...I bought it just for the motor), there is a well in front of the tank compartment that had a drop-in liner. If you pulled out the liner, you had complete access to the forward bilge. If your boat is set up the...
