    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

Re: 1981 Mako 17 Project - 9/20/10 Update Haven't been able to keep to my schedule lately, but things are progressing. I have the new outer transom skin almost completely ground down in preparation for bedding the new core. Just need to get in there and clean up the corners. I use my Dremel...

    trailer for gulfstream

Load Rite makes a VERY nice trailer...and you pay for it. I've had a few and they all held up extremely well. They also make a budget line called 5-Starr and they seem to be nice too. Venture isn't known for being a quality trailer. I would definitely take a Load Rite or 5-Starr over a Venture.

If you have shallow ramps to contend with that won't allow you to power-load, go with rollers.

    1984 20.5 fisherman

I was able to access the nuts on the rear cleats of my old 204 by reaching up through the back wells. If you can't get 'em that way, you'll have to cut some holes and installed inspection plates.

    Yamaha tach & speedometer Problem

From what I remember, I could barely see if the lights were on during the day when my gauges were brand new. How do your's look at night? It's a relatively low intensity amber light. You sure you aren't chasing a ghost? :) Look at the ground wires for the gauges to make sure they are...

    PURCHASED the 1995 Islander!!

She'll be a good runner with those Z200s! When I repowered my old 252 with used 200 OX66s, I cleaned the oil tanks out by swishing around a 1/2 qt. or so of diesel in each (took the oil pumps out first), followed by hot soapy water, followed by numerous rinses of clean hot water. Then I let...

    Yamaha Stalling

No chock to worry about on that engine since it's fuel injected. Since it runs fine at higher RPMs, I'm guessing it's not a fuel issues. That being said, I would go ahead and replace all 3 low pressure pumps if it's never been done. I would also check the O2 sensor, TPS and oil pump...

Yamaha Oil tank bracket replacement 232 gulfstream

Artec, That looks great. I imagine those are going to sell like crazy. :) If I may, I'd like to suggest a slight change to them though. Instead of using the nylock nut, weld a standard nut to the bottom of the lip and use a lock washer under the bolt head like Yamaha does. These trays...

    '76 Formula 233 project: De-powered

Re: '76 Formula 233 project: Fuel tank is out! Looks like I'm moving forward with the bracket conversion for sure now. Stumbled across a '95 Johnson 225 w/ a bad cylinder earlier this week and after exchanging a few email with Dave Mackey on ClassicMako, I picked it up last night for $300...

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

Re: 1981 Mako 17 Project - 8/3/10 Update OK...time to put down the Formula for a while. :) A few weeks back, I went ahead and put together a second core. This time I drilled three rows of 1/4" weep holes about 9" apart and drilled a series of pilot holes for some drywall screws around the...

    repowering an Overniter...

Take a look at the 1990 catalog: http://www.gradywhite.com/customer/cata ... s/1990.pdf The cutout does not appear to be wide enough on the Overnighter to accomodate twins...even those skinny little 90s. Not so on the Fisherman though... That being said, anything is possible with a little...

    considering purchase of a 252G

Can't comment on the ride of a SeaV2 vs. non-SeaV2, but I can tell you to look at the '93 model year as well. Those have the newer (and better) Gil brackets.

    Inspecting fuel tanks

The boards laying across the top of the tank look factory to me. But the green on the tanks is not. My guess is that is zinc chromate primer that someone sprayed on them to try and stop corrosion. There are some other things that don't look factory to me as well...mainly what appear to be...

    '76 Formula 233 project: De-powered

Re: '76 Formula 233 project: Digging foam...again NEM is gonna hate me for this... My tank came out with zero fight. I laid a 6' 4x4 across the tank compartment, put my floor jack on top of it and ran a piece of chain around the fill port on the tank and the arm of the jack. Gave it a...

    '76 Formula 233 project: De-powered

Re: '76 Formula 233 project: Digging foam...again I either like the bracket to have no platform at all or the platform has to be full width. I realize that poses some issues with Formula because the transom flat doesn't extend all the way to the sides, but there are ways around that. When...
