    Lower unit is out

Don’t forget to grab the shims in the housing out before you start cleaning the housing. (The ones behind the carrier)

    Heating fresh water wash down

Good point about tank temp. I have a 9 gal in my little boat and a 25 gal in my Grady. May have to put a ball valve on the hot water from the engine to regulate the temp. My 9 gal tank is above deck so I can watch it.

    Heating fresh water wash down

I am in a fla. I work from Orlando south. Tampa bay gets cold in the winter. Sometimes the air temp is 50 and the water is like 60 deg. When I am not working on boats, I install underwater navigation cable for a directional boring companies across waterways. Sometimes I am in and out of the...

    Heating fresh water wash down

I have been trying to figure out a way to heat the water in my freshwater wash down tank. I am an avid diver all year round and warm water would be a great thing. I have been looking for a way to install a heat exchanger for my four stroke outboard that would continuously circulate fresh water...

    Yamaha F225s got the corrosion...

Sorry to see the condition of your motor. I’ve always been skeptical about welding Yamaha metal in the exhaust cavity. Haven’t seen long lasting success if it is a major weld. Can weld and deck if it is minor. I would clean it up and see what is left under the corrosion and go from there.

    Yamaha height on a 228

Height has to be correct before propping. The height formula stated above is correct. No bracket, cavitation plate is 1/2 inch above Bottom of drain plug. Every 12 inches of setback , 1 inch is added to the height. Each hole on the engine height equals 3/4 inch of lift.

On the water impressions of my 228

If your impeller is over 1 year old, the rubber could be dried out. I’ve seen impellers go bad with 3 hours on them in 18 months. The king pin could be locking up on the steering. Disconnect the steering and move motor from side to side. Should be easy.

    Lower unit is out

Not true. I reuse that bearing all the time unless it has water damage or is damaged in another way.

    Lower unit is out

True. Not a big job if you haven’t put the pump on it yet. The o ring will definitely survive with a nice bead of 847. Just make sure you emery cloth the inside of the housing to bare metal. And rinse it out with brake cleaner.

    Lower unit is out

If you zoom in on the clutch teeth, this is from jamming just a hand full of times. Dealer said he needed a 3000 dollar Fly by wire Shift actuator since it was jamming in reverse. I wasn’t buying that explanation. Pulled lower apart and that is what I found. Glad he didn’t buy an actuator n...

    Lower unit is out

Not that I know of. I clean the main o ring surface and groove with wire wheel. emery cloth the flat surface of the carrier that touches the housing. Gonna be a little tougher since the prop shaft is in the unit to clean the inside of the housing. It is an option to remove the shift shaft if you...

    Marlin 30 bow thruster

Bow thrusters are great. I like to make the boat go dead sideways when you put port motor in forward and the other in reverse. Then bump the thruster to the left. Do the opposite to slide right. You can slip in sideways with a few feet of clearance.

    Yamaha 350 outboard

My bro has triple 2013 F350 Yamahas on yellowfin. The flywheel issue is a pita. Every 80 hours of operation between 3500 and 4200 rpms, the flywheel has to be replaced due to vibration possibly snapping the crankshaft in half. The ecm keeps track of the hours in that range and lets you know on...
