    Gas before or after storage

My $0.02: Because our 270 has way more fuel capacity than we need 99% of the time, I talked to a guy who does tank cleaning and fuel polishing for a living. Specifically we discussed how to preserve the auxillary tank. In the conversation fuel storage came up. As mentioned by others, he advised...

    Boat Search

Engine options for those years is another thing to watch out for. 2 strokes get bashed, but a well maintained set of ox66's or HPDI's could be less of a gamble than the 4 strokes. Most of the Yamaha 4 strokes up to 2007 (roughly) could have corrosion issues even if hours are low and are well...

You are correct on 1998 and the use of Greenwood. I have been told by GW customer service that some of the 97 transoms had Greenwood, but everything else was plywood.

Finally a Grady White owner and finally got her back home safely...

I also did both of my trips with my Dad. Come to think of it, we actually did 3! The 2nd was a bust. 900 mile round trip to Virginia and back. Stressful at times but great memories no less! We are done chasing boats, but I need to come up with another good reason for another road trip or 2 with...

Finally a Grady White owner and finally got her back home safely...

Last I looked into that it was for commercial accounts only. Even if I had the account, it would have been cheaper to pay someone to haul it after you add the one way charge. Is it different now?

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

Nice work Pete! I've seen a number of hatches redone and all of the original coring was small squares of wood. I see you used larger squares. Out of curiosity, why not one or two large pieces?

Finally a Grady White owner and finally got her back home safely...

You have my vote for a diamond upgrade on the man-card for driving 2900 miles with no cruise control. I did 2200 miles for a 248 and 1800 for the 270 10 years apart. It'll be at least another 10 before I even think about doing that again!

    Islander bow thruster

Nice work Hookup and thanks for sharing! I'd love to have one of these, but at this point I don't have the time and ambition. I 100% agree that the bow of 27' narrow beam Grady's can be a challenge to manuver. A cross wind over 20 mph+ or a cross current in the wrong direction makes the twins...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

I have experienced some of your pain. They packed a lot of features in the Islander, and the price is serviceability. I was starting to wonder if I was losing my skills or if the boat was just that tough to work on! Once everything is ironed out, I won't care, but there will be plenty of cussing...

    Sailfish - 272 vs 282

If the 272 - 282 changes are anything like the 268 - 270 changes, the bilges are very different. For serviceability, the older design was much better, but still not good. The newer design is incredibly difficult to work in, but the deck layout is better - for our purposes at least.

    The Walk Around Cuddy R.I.P.

For a second I had to check if I was reading a THT thread after that post. There goes the neighborhood!

    marlin repower

The jack plates with the additional length will create more leverage and stress on your transom. I wouldn't do it, unless it was a deal that would enable you to afford converting to 25".

    Crappy crapper

I was all set to go back to a hand pump @ $100, but for $250, I'll give it another go! ...that and the queen said she won't have it any other way.

    Crappy crapper

All of the gas docks around here do pump outs. Couple $$ for gas and the ickies go away. As much as I'd like to be able to discharge at my convenience, I'll take a hard pass on servicing an in tank masserator. Too bad no one has figured out how to make one that lasts.

    Crappy crapper

Bought one. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a deal! At that price point I don't mind replacing one every 10 years.

    Crappy crapper

Great find! Even $249 is a great price! Thank you!:)

    Crappy crapper

Hookup, I saw your right up on the in tank macerator. However, this is not the part that I'm referring to. What I'm referring to is the toilet with the electric flush system. This too has a masserator built into it (not for discharge) but the housing and assembly is far from a robust design.

    The Walk Around Cuddy R.I.P.

IMO, you need a 28' DC to get the cockpit space and hull depth to have a useable head that a 23' WA has. Having an open bow with a boat up to 27' around these parts would make me nervous.

Did you call great lakes? A complete factory Bimini and enclosure for a 2005 270 was $2800.

Grady white 248 voyager single 225 etec best prop?

If you plan on keeping the boat a long time, and/or you run a lot of miles, it would be worth getting the prop more dialed in. Otherwise I would stick with what you have too.
